One bed characterful stone cottage in Snowdonia
This recently renovated Welsh cottage with original features, modern appliances and cosy woodburner is situated above the village of Garndolbenmaen, near Porthmadog. This is a perfect, secluded, romantic retreat for two situated along a quiet lane with stunning panoramic westerly views over Cardigan Bay and the Llyn peninsula. The cottage is well-placed to explore Snowdon (30 minutes away), the Llyn peninsula (right in front of you) and the quiet coves and beaches of Anglesey (30 minutes away). Characterful 200 year old Welsh stone cottage, lovingly renovated to a high standard. Situated along a quiet track with plenty of off-road parking and secure bike storage. Private entrance. There are lots of great places to eat nearby: The Goat Inn is 1.5 miles away, The Golden Fleece Inn and The Square Restaurant are 5 miles away, to name a few. Check out the Guidebook for more information. Please note that our local pub in the village has now closed. The woodburner is usually decommissioned during the summer months. Guests have access to the front garden (with stunning views over the sea and mountains on the Llyn peninsula), patio area at front of the property, own entrance area, separate parking and access to the bike storage facility. The owner lives on the property in a flat to the right of the cottage and is happy to share local information and help with Welsh translation (learning Welsh currently). Check out the Visitors Books for extra information about places to visit locally. The property is 600ft above sea level in a quiet, rural location with farms and buildings scattered across the hillside. Sheep and cattle graze in fields around the cottage and dog-walkers and horse riders use the track in front of the property. There are many tracks and paths in the immediate neighbourhood, each with a fabulous view over the Llyn peninsula and the Welsh coastline as far as mid Wales. The Royal Town and World Heritage Site of Caernarfon is 15 miles north and the famous gardens at Portmeirion are 10 miles away in the other direction. For empty beaches and stunning scenery, head west into the Llyn peninsula and lose yourselves in the ancient landscape and mysterious atmosphere of this unspoilt and rugged part of the British Isles. Ask about local pubs and restaurants or see the information in the Guidebook for latest recommendations! There's an hourly bus service from the centre of the village (quarter of a mile walk) heading north to Caernarfon and Bangor (for mainline railway station to Cardiff, London and Manchester), and heading south to Porthmadog, Machynlleth and Aberystwyth (and trains to Birmingham). Latest bus and rail imetables are included in the blue folder at the property. European cycle route no.8 goes through the village. Self catering There's a small Welcome Hamper for guests staying for 3 nights or more on arrival. No smoking inside the property. Arrivals from 4.00pm, departures by 10.00am. Heating is by electric radiators. A woodburner is an additional form of heating during cooler months of the year. Instructions for lighting it are in the blue folder but make sure to ask if you need guidance on lighting it - or text ahead and I'll light it for you (if I am not working away)! Logs and kindling starter pack are provided (enough for around two days). GBP5.00 per bag of dried, mixed size logs available after that. Minimum stay: two nights. There's a 'sharing cupboard' for guests - some essential cooking items are here including: oil, vinegar, stock cubes, pasta, etc. - the contents depend on who has used and / or left things! If you are happy to bring your own bedding and towels, ask me for a discount of GBP15.00.
