Only three miles west is the popular market town of Hexham dominated by its majestic abbey, often recognised as the jewel in Northumberland’s crown. It offers many facilities including a cinema/theatre, indoor swimming pool and several prestigious golf courses close by. This is Hadrian’s Wall country, an area of rich heritage to explore. Vindolanda and Housesteads Roman Fort Museum are both interesting local attractions – it is a walkers’ and cyclists’ paradise with miles of wild and beautiful countryside to discover. Visit the Northumberland Heritage Coast famous for its golden unspoilt beaches and castles, or take a trip across the causeway to legendary Lindisfarne steeped in history.
