The village is a wonderful base for exploring the surrounding countryside and is close to Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park and Thoresby Hall also situated a short drive from the Peak District National Park. The 450-acre Sherwood Forest was once a royal hunting forest and home to the legendary outlaw, Robin Hood. Now, it is home to some of the oldest trees in Europe and a wonderful destination for a family day out, woven with marked trails suitable for all ages, and filled with an abundant variety of birdlife. The National Trust’s Clumber Park is set over 3800 acres and was once the country estate of the Duke of Nottinghamshire. Hire a bike, enjoy a leisurely stroll, or visit the Discovery Centre to learn about the variety of wildlife that call this scenic stretch of park, heath and woodland home. There is also a selection of cafés on the site, as well as a gift shop, a plant shop and a second hand bookshop.
