Ashprington is formerly part of the Sharpham Estate, a picturesque Devonshire village of stone cottages and houses set in the heart of the South Hams. Three miles downstream from Totnes, five miles upstream from Dittisham and ten miles from Dartmouth. The beautiful 550 acre Sharpham Vineyard, set between the village and the banks of the Dart, hosts one of the South Hams Venus Cafes and offers wine and cheese tasting. The Vineyard boasts 12000 vines basking in the sun on the south facing slopes and a herd of Jersey cows. The Durant Arms offers a menu of locally sourced Devonshire fayre. There are plenty of lovely walks along single track paths and across meadows that brim with wild colourful flowers to Ashprington Point where seals can be seen from time to time and spectacular views along the Dart. The Riverlink boats provide tours along the river down to the sea at Dartmouth and up river to Totnes. An excellent base to explore the South Hams, Devonshire Coast and the beauty of the estuary. Totnes with its Castle is a thriving picturesque town, with a unique mix of independent shops and a bustling market on Fridays and Saturdays. River trips run to Dartmouth ten miles away which links to Kingswear via the Upper and Lower ferries and the steam railway. Beaches are twenty minutes away including the National Trust beach at Thurlestone, Salcombe and Bigbury. Agatha Christie's Holiday Home Greenway, owned by the National Trust, is five miles away opposite Dittisham. Dittisham has two excellent pubs, the Red Lion Inn, and the Ferry Boat Inn. River Terrace Cafe in Dittisham. Dartmouth, with its castle has excellent shopping and hosts the Dartmouth Regatta in August. Sailing courses and boat hire are available at Dartmouth and Salcombe.
