Our chateau is open for bookings. Bookings are for a minimum of one week and change over date is Saturday. Extra cleaning staff and Covid safety measures have been implemented between bookings. We still have some availability this summer 2022 with two weeks available in June, one week in July and the last week of August/September for this summer season. There is plenty of weeks available outside the summer months. Book more than a week and get a discount of our advertised rental rates. Plantagenet Manor is a beautiful eight bedroom ‘petit’ chateau with a Heated in-ground pool that has gone through a complete renovation with five new bathrooms, gourmet commercial size kitchen, modern four poster beds and luxury cotton bedding with duck down quilts and pillows and a great mix of new and antique furniture sourced from all over France by Australian Interior Designer, Liane Lancaster and her husband Robert. The chateau is located in the centre of historic Chalus on nearly two acres of private grounds, surrounded by high walls and hedges and is within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and a lovely Health Spa. The town was made famous by being the place where English King Richard the Lionheart met his death while storming a castle. The chateau sits below the castle and a second smaller castle now in ruins is located a short walking distance from the chateau. The town is on the Richard the Lionheart route and also on the main Santiago de Compostela route and is close to many castles, chateau, abbeys, medieval towns and villages and is located in a National Park, renown all over France for it's beautiful natural scenery, woodlands and lakes. The city of Limoges with its international airport and high speed rail links is only 35 kilometres away and Paris is only four hours away. GROUND FLOOR Enter into a large hallway through the two massive solid oak doors with wrought iron fixtures you find a beautiful circular stairway on the left that leads up to the upper levels. The gourmet commercial sized kitchen with huge old stone fire place is situated on the right through two antique 9 ft high oak doors. The kitchen has a very large commercial gas and electric cooker with double oven, 6 gas burners and hotplate situated within the huge 'chateau' style fireplace. There is a large double door fridge with icemaker, separate wine fridge, stunning three meter marble centre island with six Tolix chairs, coffee machine, extensive glassware, tableware and cutlery and an array of pots and pans. Everything you could wish for to make a gourmand meal for the family and friends. Off the kitchen is the laundry and utility room with a washing machine and dryer and extensive cupboards housing the iron and ironing board and other useful household items. To the left of the entrance is a bedroom with a double bed and en-suite within the room itself with a shower, sink and WC. Off this room are utility rooms. A separate WC is located in the hallway. From the hallway, through two beautiful Oak doors leads to the lounge area which houses two aged leather five person sofas and other seating, large coffee table with parquetry top, American Oak entertainment unit which contains a 127 cm (50') flat screen LG Plasma TV, DVD, Sat channel box with hundreds of English and French channels, a laptop with WiFi internet connection, books on the local area, chateau and interior design and DVD library. A lovely Napoleonic Black Marble open fireplace sits in the centre of the room. High ceilings, dark wooden floor, pillows, throws, and other items make this room the perfect place to relax together as a group. There are electric shutters on all windows and the windows face out onto the rear grounds where the pool, entertainment area and raised gazebo are situated. A lovely old church can be seen from all windows and dominates the local area. The rear grounds can be reached through double French doors from the lounge room. To the left of the lounge area is the large dining room that is entered by two solid oak doors. This room houses a three meter wooden table with inlaid wood top, huge round oak legs, ten black velvet French dining chairs and two antique carvers that have been recovered with beautiful English fabrics. Lovely panelling surrounds the room which also houses a very large lime washed hand carved cabinet. There are many glass fronted cupboards and large canvas paintings on the wall. Our resident Knights Templer stands guard in the room. Two double windows open up the view onto the rear grounds, pool area and the old church. LEVEL ONE Ascending the magnificent oak circular stairway with sisal runner and iron railings you arrive on to a large landing and hallway. Off the landing you will find four beautifully renovated bedrooms, three with modern four poster beds, all with comfortable white hotel quality cotton bedding, duck down quilts and pillows and en-suite bathrooms. Bedroom 2 Very large room with high ceilings, modern four poster bed with white cotton sheets, duck down quilt and pillows, two side tables with lamps, mirrored built in robe, chest of drawers, white marble fireplace with large mirror above and a comfortable chair. Large window with shutters. Private en-suite with floor to ceiling tiles, shower with large rain shower-head, sink, and WC. Lots of natural light through the large double frosted windows. Bedroom 3 Very large room with high ceilings, modern four poster bed with comfortable hotel quality cotton sheets, duck down quilt and pillows, two side tables with lamps, mirrored built in robe. Comfortable chaise. Chest of drawers. Two windows overlooking the rear garden area with shutters. Private en-suite with floor to ceiling tiles, shower with large rain shower-head, sink, heated towel rack, and WC. Lots of natural light through the large double frosted windows. Bedroom 4 Master bedroom Large room with high ceilings, modern four poster bed with comfortable hotel quality cotton sheets, duck down quilt and pillows, two side tables with lamps, extensive built in cupboards. Comfortable chaise. Marble top chest of drawers with Flat screen TV, DVD, and sat box with hundreds of channels. Very large master bathroom with floor to ceiling tiles, beautiful 'egg' bath and stunning chrome tap ware, double sized shower with large rain shower-head, two single sinks and WC. Chrome heated towel rack. Lots of natural light through three sets of double frosted windows. Bedroom 5 Bedroom with double bed, comfortable cotton bedding, side tables and lamps, cupboards and separate entrance to the main shared bathroom with a separate lockable interconnecting door to Master bedroom. Making both bedrooms perfect as a family suite. LEVEL 2 Ascending the beautiful oak staircase leads to the top level with open landing with antique table and chair. To the left is a door leading to a large open hallway leading to two bedrooms and open plan entertainment/games room. A further separate bedroom and bathroom is located on this level. Bedroom 6 Smaller bedroom ideal as a nanny's bedroom with double bed and cotton bedding, side table and lamp, cupboard to hand clothese. Separate entrance to a large shared bathroom with shower, sink and WC. Bedroom 7 Bedroom with two single beds suitable for children, cotton bedding, wardrobe, desk, chairs, side table and lamp Bedroom 8 Bedroom with two single beds suitable for children,desk, chairs, side table and lamp. Entertainment / games room. Large open room with 2 two seater sofas, antique river rowing boat attached to the huge roof beams, TV counsel with flat screen TV, DVD, Sat box with hundreds of channels, DVD Library, other seating, table football/babyfoot game, books, games. Perfect as an children and teenagers entertainment area out of the way. GROUNDS The grounds of Plantagenet Manor are very private, raised from street level with high walls and hedges, with nearly an acre of gardens, HEATED pool, gazebo and full size pétanque court. Front Large wrought iron gates leads up a stone pathway to the front entrance with two huge antique oak doors with wrought iron features and large lock. A video intercom is at the side entrance gate. Two large urns are situated each side of the main entrance. Trees, hedges, bushes, grassed garden and a full size pétanque court that is overlooked by the castle. To one side is an ancient 'wishing' well with secure metal grill and a seating area with two chairs and a table. Rear The rear of the property houses the HEATED pool, pool area with new modern semi circular seating overlooking the pool, 12 sun loungers, raised gazebo on decking with outside seating and table for the whole family. A new gas BBQ and plenty of play areas for children. The rear of the property has two large wrought iron gates leading to the rear lane and old church. Parking is available for numerous vehicles at the rear of the property or on the side streets. We are unable at this time to offer the degustation 6 course meal by our Michelin chef at Plantagenet Manor. Plantagenet Manor is situated on the Richard the Lionheart route and is within walking distance to the Castles of Chalus-Maulmont, Chalus Chabrol and close to the castles of Montbrun, Les Cars, Rochebrune, Rochechouart, Brie, Nexon,Jumilac, Bonneval,Pompadour, the ancient Fortress of Lastours, the Abby's of Chalard, saint-Yrieix-La-Perche and the medieval city of Segur-Le-Chateau. 30 minutes from the chateau is the moving reminder of the horror of WW2 with the preserved town of Ordour Sur Glane, left as it was since 1944 as a reminder to the brutality of war.
