It also situated you just a block from the malecón, a paved beachfront promenade and the beach! The casita (little house) is called this because it’s in a stand alone building at the back of the property close to the pool and courtyard and has its own private entrance.. The main spaces of the Casita Paraiso studio: - Your cute little patio area is what you’ll see first with a cozy tiled ceramic table to enjoy your coffee in the morning and the most beautiful view of the pool and garden courtyard with lush native vegetation. This space is perfect for a couple wanting to feel like on a romantic getaway! - As you come into the casita (“little house”) you’ll find a simple kitchen area with all you’ll need to prepare and reheat meals. Great if traveling on a budget. There’s a new refrigerator, antique wooden cabinet, coffee maker, kettle, portable stove top and toaster oven! - The bedroom is delightful and full of cheerful color with a double bed, large ceiling fan and AC for comfort, a dresser and SmartTV, and a great bar-like table against the window where you can enjoy a meal or use it as a laptop-friendly workspace! - The bathroom is spacious for a studio and besides the sink, toilet, and shower, it also has a bidet. You can also enjoy these shared spaces at the complex*: - The large rooftop with a huge palapa shaded area and plenty of seating to enjoy the breeze and views of the beach and sea (or rather the Gulf of Mexico!) Have a sunset cocktail up here or enjoy a meal al fresco. - The beautiful garden courtyard pool! Surrounded by mature palm trees and a cement palapa shaded area with seats for enjoying some time out of the sun or a beverage. *Only registered guests allowed in the shared areas of the complex When it’s time to venture out, the apartment complex is situated just a block from the east end of Progreso’s famous Malecón, a paved waterfront promenade that runs from Calle 60 (the street you’re on!) to Calle 80! It’s a 1.1km/.68 miles walk one way and it’s loaded with things to see and do. There you’ll find a large selection of restaurants, many of them selling seafood and of course since it’s oceanfront, you can dine with a beach view! If you want more of a walk, you can also walk the Progreso Pier at the west end of the Malecón. It’s an incredible 6.5 kilometers long (4 miles)! It is the world's longest pier and hosts cruise ships and cargo vessels. After all that, you can just take some time to enjoy the beach, the beautiful ocean views and warm shallow water. And again, just a block from the apartment is the beach! You can make it an everyday trip if you want! And of course, there are many day trip options too, you can go see pink flamingos at the salt flats in Celestún or an excursion to visit one of the many Mayan Ruins. Chichén Itzá being one of the most famous of course as it’s one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World! Guest Access: You’ll have exclusive access to your apartment and your patio area. Plus, you’ll have access to the shared areas like the courtyard pool and seating area downstairs and the large palapa rooftop terrace. The Neighborhood: The casita apartment is just a block from the beach and Progreso’s famous Malecón! - Walk the Malecón waterfront promenade. It’s a 1.1km/.68 miles walk one way and it’s loaded with things to see and do. You’ll find a large selection of restaurants, enjoy a stroll along beachside, get a marquesita (a crunchy crepe-like roll filled with sweet or savory fillings) from the street vendor or dine with a beach view! - Walk the Progreso Pier at the west end of the Malecón. At an incredible 6.5 kilometers long (4 miles), it’s the world's longest pier and hosts cruise ships and cargo vessels. - Relax and enjoy the beach and beautiful ocean with warm shallow water. - Kayak or stand-up paddleboard through the mangroves - Visit Reserva Ecológica El Corchito where there are 3 crystal clear cenotes to enjoy (cenotes are freshwater sinkholes that are unique to this area) - Day trip! Go see pink flamingos at the salt flats in Celestún or an excursion to Chichén Itzá, one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World! Apart from that, there are many good restaurants but here are some of our recommendations: - On the Malecón: Mayaka and Crabster - Off the Malecon: Barlevento, El Toro, El Fabuloso, Faces, Nikoli - For the best pizza: Osteria Italiana 386 - For a good bar: La Genuine Yuli or Barlovento Getting Around: Guests can find free parking on the street in front of the apartment complex, making it very easy to get around the area. The Merida International Airport (MID) is the closest airport. It’s about 50 km or 31 miles (a 40 min drive) to the apartment. If you happen to be flying into Cancun International Airport (CUN), it’s about a 4-hour drive to Progreso. There are shared-ride and private vans as well as rental car options. Or visit one of the lesser-known archeological sites of Dzibilchaltun or Xcambo, still very fascinating! 3. Laguna Rosada - really cool pink-tinged salt ponds with flamingoes & archaeological ruins 4. Explore one of the neighboring beach towns of Chelem and Chuburná and enjoy the beach there! 5. Take a trip to Mérida, the capital of the Yucatan, which offers many exciting tours and great shopping 6. Or to Valladolid, a 16th-century colonial town or the magical yellow town of Uxmal! 7. See wild pink flamingos at the salt flats in Celestún (Reserva de la Biosfera Ria Celestún) Shopping: - For a dollar store and for some basic supplies try Waldo or La Plazita, as they have excellent prices. - Grocery Stores: Bodega, Soriana, Super Aki - Convenience Store: OXXO Golf: - Jack Nicklaus Academy 28-min drive (27 km/17 miles) Interaction with Guests: Please contact us at least 24 hours in advance of your arrival to coordinate the meet-up time for your check-in. (There are no check-ins after 7 pm). When you meet up, the local contact will give you a tour of the property, provide information about the local area, answer any questions you may have, and leave you with the key to the place. REMEMBER NO CHECK-INS AFTER 7 PM. From there, you’ll have complete privacy during your stay, but we’re available 7 days per week, so should you need anything - just send us a message!
