Dar tal-linef' is a stylish, bright and airy, townhouse in the historic Three Cities close to Valletta. The private roof terraces have panoramic views over the Grand Harbour and Mediterranean Sea. Recently renovated, it has an entrance hall with skylight, an amazingly gorgeous bathroom, a modern dining/living/kitchen room and large, double height, romantic bedroom with air-conditioning. It oozes historical character, complemented by its collection of original Maltese antiques and artwork. COVID-19 NOTE We have always paid particular attention to cleanliness, as our airbnb reviews show, and continue to ensure that the house is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between stays. Presently we are leaving a 24 hour gap between guest departures and checking in of new guests to further minimise the risk. We are also ensuring supplies of hand sanitiser, soaps and wipes are also available in the property. We usually greet guests personally on arrival and show them around the property but if you prefer we can give you the key lock code instead to minimise interactions. Please note that we are also unable to collect guests directly from the airport at this time. Finally, we have removed certain non-essential items, such as magazines, from the property to reduce contact points. The property: Dar tal-linef (which translates from Maltese as ‘house of chandeliers’) oozes local character - we want you to wake up and know you are in Malta! It is an ideal, romantic retreat for a couple seeking an authentic slice of Malta within walking distance of great dining options and surrounded by bustling local life, amazing history, architectural gems and cultural attractions. Large, romantic bedroom with double height ceilings set in the back of the house away from the street / alley with big window looking into internal courtyard. UK king-sized / US queen-sized - 5 ft wide (mattress is approximately 150 cms wide x 198 cms long) - bed with sleep inducing memory foam mattress and decent thread count Calvin Klein / Ralph Lauren sheets and pillow cases. The air-conditioning and mosquito net will help ensure a great night's sleep in the Maltese heat. (In our experience, relying on an electric fan without a mosquito net is not conducive to a restful slumber in Malta). The gorgeous and very large bathroom has a huge, walk-in shower area with rain shower head, a bath with good water pressure and double vanity unit. It is complemented by luxury bath linens from Restoration Hardware which we enjoyed shopping for in California. We also leave beach towels in the property in case you don't want to bring your own or are restricted to a carry on bag and want to save space. Clean, modern and well equipped kitchen and living area which is air-conditioned (including fridge/freezer, dinner service, electric oven and four hobs, kettle, cafetiere, tea pot, tea / coffee mugs, saucepans and frying pan set, water and wine glasses, fruit bowl, cheese grater, set of sharp kitchen knives and bread knife, colander, casserole dish, measuring jug, corkscrew, vegetable peeler, tin opener, tongs, chopping board, egg cups, 24 piece cutlery set, set of whisks, spoons, masher and spatulas, scissors, napkins, tea towel, place mats, oven gloves, variety of Fairtrade Clipper teas and Lavazza coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and olive oil) for preparing a snack or a more substantial meal. The private lower roof courtyard (solely for your use) has two chairs with table and umbrella parasol surrounded by lovely local plants and is perfect for al fresco dining. There are also outdoor lights so you can enjoy on the warm evenings. The upper exposed roof terrace (again for your sole use) has two chairs and enjoys picturesque panoramic views and is an ideal place to relax and maybe enjoy a glass of something chilled. Gracing the walls is a collection of original paintings and limited edition prints by Maltese and international artists capturing local scenes. Locally sourced antique and vintage Maltese furniture, most of which we have lovingly restored and renovated ourselves, adds to the ambiance and charm. The one-off chandeliers (1890s crystal chandelier in the bathroom, 1920s green and gold Murano glass chandelier in the living room and 1950s brass chandelier in the bedroom) and other light fixtures add to the unique character. Recently renovated with new electrics and plumbing (the original wooden windows, shutters, ironwork, internal doors and patterned Maltese floor tiles were refurbished), well maintained and carefully cared for property. Free wifi (unlimited data transfer with advertised download speed of 250Mbps and upload speed of 15Mbps), wall mounted, tilting flat screen TV with international channel package (mainly in English, Maltese and Italian but a couple of Spanish, French and German channels). Also contains hairdryer, washing machine, iron and ironing board, clothes dryer rack and pegs and 2 universal plug adapters (Maltese sockets are same as standard UK / Ireland 3-pin plug sockets). For your safety there is a smoke detector, a fire extinguisher, a fire blanket, a first aid kit and an emergency light in the property. Even though the property contains no fuel burning appliances or mains or bottled gas we have installed a carbon monoxide detector for peace of mind. Please note that the entrance hall, bathroom and separate laundry room are located on the ground floor, the air-conditioned bedroom on the first floor and air-conditioned living/dining/kitchen on the second floor. Steps lead up to the outdoor courtyard from the second floor and there is an external staircase to the roof terrace with panoramic views. Please be aware that it is a legal requirement in Malta to register with the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) and obtain a licence for any property available for short term rental to tourists. Many local properties are, unfortunately, rented out illegally. Dar tal-linef has been inspected, quality approved and licensed by the MTA (licence no. HPE/0675) and the required VAT and eco tax are paid to the relevant authorities.
