Traditional house in pretty village close to Mediterranean beaches A traditional stone-faced village house, typical of the area and in the heart of the friendly village of Laroque des Alberes, within easy reach of Perpignan and the Mediterranean. Laroque des Alberes is a traditional Catalan village with good amenities, situated in one of the sunniest parts of France and is close to the beautiful Cote Vermeille on the Mediterranean with its beaches and seaside facilities. Collioure, Argeles-sur-Mer, Port Vendre and Banyules-sur Mer are all a short drive away with safe beaches set against the beautiful backdrop of the local vineyards and hills of the Alberes. The house is on four floors has been completely renovated and modernised. It is fully equipped and comfortable for use all year round and features a small secluded courtyard with outdoor furniture for pleasant summer evenings. The village has a good range of food shops with a weekly market, cafes and restaurants nearby. The area has much to explore in the way of outdoor interests and cultural activities. Locally, there are mountain trails starting in the foothills just above the house and rock pools to cool off in during the summer months. The Pyrenees are easy to drive to for a range of winter and summer activities. The mountain town of Ceret with its wonderful Saturday market and Modern Art Museum is also just a short drive away. The area was a magnet to artists particularly at the beginning of the 20th century with Matisse, Picasso and Charles Renee Mackintosh, Derain all having lived around here and there is a small museum about the work of local sculptor Maillol near Banyules. The proximity to Spain means you get 2 countries for the price of one! Many locals do their weekly shopping in Spain at La Jonquera, where you will also find duty free cigarettes and excellent cheap Spanish wine and Cava. The beautiful cities of Girona and Barcelona are an hour and 90 minutes away on the A9 motorway where you can experience the culture of Catalonia and admire the work of Dali and Gaudi. You can visit the Dali house in the pretty fishing village of Cadaques or swim on one of the many beaches of the Costa Brava such as Roses or Empuriabrava, which also have fantastic restaurants. The closest airports are Perpignan and Gerona and there are other airports such as Beziers, Barcelona and Carcassone, all within two hours drive.There are links to the TGV fast train from Paris to Perpignan and on to Barcelona.
