This two bedroom home is 4 blocks from the Arcata plaza and within walking distance to everything you may need. Please read the entire listing before requesting to book including the House Rules which are listed after the Reviews at the very end of the listing. Please also view the additional house rules by clicking "show more". There is a short-term rental agreement that will need to be agreed to online before the reservation may be accepted, and then a hard copy will be required to sign upon arrival. After you request to book you will need to watch for a message from the host with the short term rental agreement. Your reservation will not be accepted until you respond to the message stating that you agree to the short term rental agreement. Regarding check-in, this is not a self check-in house. Please be willing to give an estimated time of arrival, so that we may you to give you a full tour of the house and yard. The house is a "No Shoe" house. Please request to stay only if you are willing to comply with this. You may want to bring slippers and/or easy on-off shoes. The house was built in 1945. Downstairs is the living room, dining room, kitchen, full bathroom and laundry room. The bedrooms are upstairs. There are fir wood floors throughout the house. The bed has non-feather comforters and both feather pillows and non-feather pillows. The kitchen is well equipped with everything that you may need including microwave, tea kettle, toaster, blender, and coffee grinder, as well as filtered drinking water. If you need anything else please just ask, we are a phone call away and right next door. In the living room there is a large screen television that you may use for Netflix and Hulu that we provide. Amazon Prime may also be accessed. The only broadcast television available are the five PBS (Public Broadcasting System) stations. There is a Blu-ray DVD player. There is a small amplified speaker set in the dining room that you may use with a MP3 player or a cell phone. This house may work well for people who are sensitive to dust, mold, smoke, and pet dander. The back patio is semi-private in that there is a studio in the back that we use, however we will not disturb your privacy when you are in the patio. The studio has an alternate entrance. The vegetable garden, barbecue and patio furniture are available for your use. You will have access to the whole house with the exception of a room at the back of the house and the front part of the garage, which are for the owner’s use when there are not guests staying at the house. You will have access to the back area of the garage which is where the laundry room is. Please let the host know in advance if you will need bicycle storage. There is a little space in the laundry room for one or two bikes and a separate entrance into that area. Under "Amenities" it is stated that there is no parking because the only off-street parking space available is in front of the garage and it only fits a small sized car. The parking space is not appropriate for cars that will stick out into the sidewalk as that is illegal. You are welcome to use the space if you have a small car that will not stick out into the sidewalk. Because there is not an abundance of street parking in our neighborhood (or in Arcata in general), we all attempt to park in front of our own house as much as possible. If you are unable to find a parking space in front of the house, you may parallel park in front of the driveway. If you must park in front of a neighbor's house, please be careful to not take up more than one parking space and move your car as soon as possible. Regarding check-in times: The host will be checking you in at a prearranged and agreed to arrival time to show you around and give you the key code. You may check-in as early as 3:00 p.m. Please notify us as soon as you know within at least 24 hours of your arrival what time you want to check-in and choose a time you are pretty sure you will be able to make. We will be taking time out of our regular daily schedule to meet you. If you are going to be more than 1/2 hour late from the agreed to check-in time please message us so that we will know when we can expect you in case we need to reschedule our time. If necessary please keep us updated along the way. We understand that sometimes delays may occur but it is important to keep the host updated. We live next door and someone will be available either by phone or in person to assist you with anything you may need. We have intended to stock the house well but if you need to borrow something please give a call. We are happy to share information about the area if you are in need of advice. We also may be available to give you a private tour if you are interested. Please feel free to call us anytime. The house and patio are in close proximity to the hosts and other neighbors. Quiet time in the patio begins at 10:00 p.m. Low noise level conversation should be okay if you remain conscious that people may be sleeping nearby. We want to give guests space but we are open to any interaction that you may want. We enjoy meeting new people. If you are flying into the local airport we may be available to pick you up and/or drop you off. Please inquire if you need this service. The house is within five blocks from the Arcata Plaza, the Northcoast Arcata Coop, Safeway, and CVS Pharmacy. We are right next to a small market and one block from the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary. We are within close range of several eating/drinking establishments on the plaza and several others even closer. Humboldt State University (HSU), is less than two miles away. Everything you may need is within walking distance. There are two bus stops within a 3 minute walk. The Finnish Hot Tubs and Saunas is two blocks away and they serve a variety of teas and coffee. It is a cozy place to spend the evening reading the newspapers, magazines and you may even have the chance to hear some live music. It is one of the best places anywhere to take a hot tub or a sauna. Arcata has a great Farmer's Market on the plaza with live music every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. On the 2nd Friday of every month is Arts Arcata from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. where the businesses on and off the Plaza keep their doors open to display the artwork of local artists. Many of the stores serve refreshments and there is often live music playing in some of the stores. On the first Saturday of the month is Arts Alive which is Eureka's monthly evening to display local artist's works. It takes place in Old Town Eureka from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Many stores serve refreshments and often there is some live street music happening. Arcata has it's own community forest about 20 minutes away on foot, and the ocean is 10 minutes away by car. The Humboldt Bay is a 10 minute walk away through the Arcata Marsh/Bird Sanctuary. There are some wonderful beaches up in the Westhaven/Trinidad areas about 15-20 minutes north of Arcata. They include Moonstone Beach, Baker Beach, Trinidad State Beach, College Cove, and Agate Beach which is in Patrick's Point State Park. Further north is Big Lagoon County Park, Dry Lagoon, Stone Lagoon and Freshwater Lagoon. Eureka is 6 miles south and has a wonderful waterfront area and a thriving old town. We are a three minute walk to the bus stop for both Arcata's Arcata Mad River Transit System (AMRTS) and the county bus, Redwood Transit System (RTS), which travels north to Trinidad and south to Scotia. Eureka has the Eureka Transit Service (ETS). There is an Enterprise Car Rental agency one block away. If you have a bicycle with you, the Arcata "bottom" is just down the road. You will be riding on country roads within a few minutes and the dunes, sloughs, the Mad River, Mad River Beach, and Humboldt Bay are within a 15 minute bike ride. Please make sure that you have the Airbnb app on your cell phone, tablet, etc. All communications between the host and the guest are required to go through the Airbnb messaging center. Please make sure that the notifications are turned on for whatever device you are using. There is a short-term rental agreement that will need to be reviewed and agreed to online, before a reservation request is accepted. There is a separate studio that belongs to the host at the back of the house that shares the patio. When guests are present in the patio the host will avoid going there, however the host may need to go into the patio when guests are not present. Regarding check-in times: The host will be checking you in at a estimated, prearranged, and agreed to arrival time to show you around and give you the key code. You may check-in as early as 3:00 p.m. Please notify us as soon as you know (or within at least 24 hours) of your arrival, what time you want to check-in and choose a time you are pretty sure you will be able to make. We will be taking time out of our regular daily schedule to meet you. If you are going to be more than 1/2 hour late from the agreed to check-in time please message us so that we will know when we can expect you, in case we need to reschedule our time. If necessary please keep us updated along the way. We understand that sometimes delays may occur but it is important to keep the host updated. There is one off street parking space that can be used by a smaller sized car, otherwise guests will need to park on the street being careful to not take up more than one space. Guests may also parallel park in front of the driveway if necessary. Please do not park a large size car in the driveway if it blocks the side walk. Quiet time in the patio begins at 10:00 p.m. Arcata is known for having a large population of Argentinian ants. To avoid having ants during your stay please put all food away, do not leave dirty dishes out, and do not bring food upstairs. The 12% Transit Occupancy Tax (TOT) that is required by the state is included in the price.
