Private parking for 1 car; additional off road parking. No smoking.. Located in the little village of Humshaugh between the Northumberland National Park and the nearby historic town of Hexham. Thistle Cottage is just a short walk away from the many amenities the village has to offer including an award winning pub serving delicious freshly cooked meals. Nestled on the banks of the North Tyne river offers great fly fishing and open water swimming events. The TV series about Hardian’s Wall with Robson Green gives a good taster. Hjem restaurant, only a few miles away, offers a Scandinavian tasting menu fusing Northumbrian produce has just been awarded its first Michelin star. Pronounced the same as “home” in Scandinavian and Northumbrian (hame) booking well in advance is highly recommended (Website hidden by Airbnb) Thistle Cottage is on a peaceful cul de sac, with off road parking and a beautiful enclosed private garden. There is a lawned area as well as a patio with garden furniture, which is bursting with colourful flowers in the spring and summer, a great spot to enjoy the sunshine. Inside you are sure to be delighted, this cottage is beautifully presented with careful attention to detail. The living room is the heart of the home with a blazing wood burner which is sure to keep you toasty and warm on even the coldest winter night. There is a separate kitchen with a dining area leading out into the garden, the kitchen is very well equipped, ready for you to delight your loved ones with some culinary creations which you can enjoy either inside or out in the sun. The bonus utility room is perfect for doing your laundry, so for a long stay you can wash any muddy clothes after country walks through the elements. Upstairs you have a choice of two bedrooms, with a master double room as well as a single with a pull out trundle bed. Upstairs is completed with the house bathroom which has a shower over the bath. There is a very handy community run shop selling a range of products in the village. Just a 10-minute walk away you have Hadrian’s Wall as well as a 2000 year old Roman Fort and Museum. The world famous Hadrian’s Wall is the county’s greatest Roman monument and World Heritage Site, which stretches 73 miles across the backbone of Northumberland. Crossing through stunning countryside, natural woodland and meadows, there are plenty of established public footpaths, cycle paths, bridleways and popular walks and cycle routes that guests must take the opportunity to explore, as well as Roman forts and settlements. Just 6 miles away you have the town of Hexham boasting an incredible history. Hexham Abbey dates back to AD674, this old priory boasts an interactive exhibition and a visitor centre, as well as fabulous grounds and public spaces. Hexham Old Gaoll is another historic site and certainly worth a visit at any time of year. For guests who enjoy a day at the races, Hexham Racecourse has a packed calendar all year round. Hexham also boasts a theatre, cinema, golf course, rowing club, skateboard park, leisure centre with pool, running track and ten-pin bowling alley, so guests should always be able to find something to enjoy during their stay. The pretty Roman town of Corbridge is only a little over 7 miles away and offers some great places to eat and drink, as well as boutique shops and a stroll along the riverbanks. The Northumberland National Park and International Dark Skies Park are both close by and offer some of the most fabulous scenery and views, as well as unbeatable star gazing at night. Just 25 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead, guests will find there are plenty of shopping opportunities, art galleries, museums, restaurants and bars. Only an hour and three quarters to the west is the beautiful Northumberland coast included the famous Holy and Farne Islands.
