Away from it all! A hidden paradise in Southern Crete

Treis ekklisies, meaning ‘three churches’ in Greek, is a settlement by the sea, 63km south of Heraklion. Three Byzantine churches, Metamorphosisis, Agios Antonios and Evangelismos have given the name to the village. The area is also called The Athos Mount of Crete and is the southernmost end of Europe. The area is generally quite isolated but boasts very beautiful beaches. Behind the settlement exits the Amba gorge and right in front of it there is a sandy beach with deep waters. There are also cafes and taverns. In the west side of the village, behind a hill, there is a carob grove and an isolated sandy beach called Pahia Ammos. Minoan findings tell us that the area was known by Ancient Cretans while during the World War II the area, because of its isolation, was used by the local resistance and allies as an escape route by submarines to Cairo and Middle East. The nearby mountains host the largest vulture colony in Greece and southern Europe, including Gypaetus barbatus, one of the rare species of raptors in Europe. In this small paradise with many beaches, others with pebbles and others with sand surrounded by steep rocks, with crystal clear waters, ideal for swimming, fishing and underwater exploration as well as walking trails, we offer you all year accommodation overlooking the endless blue and the steep cliffs of the Asterousian Mountains. The villa consists of two storey. On the ground floor there is an open plan fully equipped kitchen a living room with fireplace and a WC. There is also the first of the double bedrooms. On the first floor there are two more double bedrooms and one more WC. One of the bedrooms has a double bed and the other two offer one bunk bed each. The villa is suitable for 6 persons (in beds) but we can also accommodate two more persons (on sofa beds). Both floors have verandas with amazing sea views. BBQ, basketball area and parking will be available and for your use only. The villa offers WI FI and TV set. Useful information During the summer there is a mini market and small cafes next to the beach with fresh seafood and traditional mezedes. Please note that from the middle of September most of the taverns, the mini market and cafes close. The nearby villages Harakas and Pyrgos have a supermarket that operates throughout the year. If you are in the area, it is worth visiting the village of Paramympi, about 800 meters, the impressive waterfall of Abbas, which gives to the landscape a wild and impressive look. When it rains its waters fall from a height of 160 m forming wet smoke.
