Harwich, which borders Dovercourt, has a variety of amenities ranging from convenience stores to harbourside restaurants, one of which is named after the famed diarist Samuel Pepys, who was the town's MP in 1679. It also has a variety of interesting buildings, a golf course, and a sandy beach to keep you entertained during your stay. Clacton-on-Sea, a popular seaside town with a beach and pier for a very English day by the sea, is only 15 miles distant.
