Wembury is the nearest beach, 5 miles away, and there are many attractions in the area to visit. The fascinating, world renowned, Plymouth Hoe, its the red and white striped lighthouse high up on the esplanade is just one. Guests can enjoy the outdoor lido swimming pool, and the historic Barbican with its cobbled streets. Try some offshore diving with the scuttled HMS Scylla at Whitsand Bay and the Eddystone Reef, while Mount Batton is good for watersports, including yachting. Plymouth Aquarium is a great day out and Rame Head is well worth a visit. The peninsula can be reached by crossing the Tamar Bridge on the A38. Alternatively go via the thriving city of Plymouth with its deep naval traditions, excellent shopping, and then take the chain ferry to Torpoint. Visitors on foot take the passenger ferry from Stonehouse in Plymouth to Cremyll or, in the summer, the ‘Western Maid’. This really is a delightful boat trip from the Mayflower Steps on the Barbican across the Sound Landing on Cawsand Beach. Once there you will find an area of great natural beauty, quiet secluded beaches, magnificent scenery and spectacular walks. The coastal path starts at Cremyll winding its way through the 800-acre Mount Edgcumbe Park, which according to the Shell Guide is probably the most beautiful in England. The National Trust owned Saltram House is 5 miles away, and Dartmoor National Park, 15 miles. The Eden Project can be reached in a 1¼ hour drive.
