Small farming settlements nestle amidst woods and fields with abundance of softly running rivers to the north of Okehampton in the magnificent undulating Devon hills. The fantastic Roadford Reservoir provides a wide range of watersports and fishing options. Okehampton is home to a prominent mediaeval castle overlooking a wooded river valley, the Museum of Dartmoor Life (where Tourist Information is available), and the Okehampton train station, which has been restored to its 1950s glory and runs trains along a scenic route to Meldon, southern England's highest station. The town also offers breathtaking views of Dartmoor, as well as access to wonderful hikes and Simmons Park, which includes a children's adventure playground.
