What we love about it Relax and unwind in this wonderfully idyllic villa set in the exclusive resort of Goldeneye Enjoy the breath-taking natural beauty of Jamaica, with its white sandy beaches and tropical rainforests Swim in the beautiful lagoon or go snorkelling and experience the rainbow colours of the sea life What you should know Due to the villa’s location near a lagoon, some guests may be troubled by mosquitoes so we advise that guests take precautions Location Goldeneye is located on the stunning north coast of Jamaica, 73 miles from Montego Bay and 45 miles north of Kingston. Jamaica is home to a huge variety of natural landscapes, with a glorious sandy coastline and a dramatic, mountainous interior of spectacular rainforests. Novelist Ian Fleming bought land here after World War II and had a beach house built according to his own design. His plan was to come and recuperate after the horrors of the war and to spend his days writing in the Caribbean sunshine. In the years that followed, Fleming wrote all his James Bond books. He lived in the house until his death in 1964. Some twelve years later, the estate was bought by musician Bob Marley who then sold it on to Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, just a year later. Blackwell slowly extended the estate, slowly adding more properties, until it finally opened as a hotel in the late 1980s. Today the hotel offers a sublimely relaxing stay, with its stunning beaches, pools, beach bars and restaurant, where you can sit and take in the stunning surroundings over a plate of fresh seafood. The hotel offers an excellent selection of water sports, from sailing to snorkelling, and there is also an on-site spa where guests can enjoy a little pampering. Beyond the boundaries of this tropical idyll, however, lies a spectacular and fascinating island worthy of exploration. Just a few miles from nearby Ocho Rios are the Dunn’s River Falls. Cascading down 55 metres of ever-changing terraced rocks that have formed from calcium carbonate deposits, these spectacular falls are breath-taking. Accompanied by a guide, visitors can climb the falls and, once at the top, take in the stunning tropical surroundings. As well as its glorious beaches, Jamaica is also home to some spectacular mountains and rainforests. Famous for its coffee, the island’s Blue Mountain range is well worth a visit. In the capable hands of a tour guide, visitors can head up into the misty hills and pay a visit to one of the many coffee plantations to see at first-hand how the beans are harvested, dried and turned into a wonderfully fragrant cup of coffee. Alternatively, rum aficionados may appreciate a guided tour of the traditional rum distillery at Worthy Park Estate. See how the island’s famous drink is made, from start to finish, before enjoying a tasting session to round off the trip. Kids Best Suited For: All Ages Kids will love the easy beach life on offer at Goldeneye. Safe and protected, the resort is ideal for younger guests, with three pools as well as the irresistible crystal water of Low Cay with its gently shelving beach and soft golden sand. Drinks and snacks are constantly available from the bars and the resident water sports team offer a plentiful selection of water sports ideal for older children and parents. Snorkelling equipment is available at Snorkeller’s Cove from where you can explore the stunning coral reefs and myriad fish. Kayaks and paddle boards are also available – the calm water of the lagoon is ideal for beginners. The resort’s glass-bottom boat departs daily, exclusively for guests, and offers a relaxing way to enjoy the underwater wildlife. Younger guests can also learn to sail – there are fully trained sailing instructors at Goldeneye’s Button Beach, and the calm, gentle waters of the Caribbean offer the ideal opportunity to learn. Mystic Mountain Rainforest Adventures should be one of the things at the top of your list for kids’ entertainment. Located close to nearby Ocho Rios, it offers a superb range of activities for families, including a unique bobsled ride that hurtles along tracks through the lush rainforest, providing a breath-taking downhill experience through the mountains. The Sky Explorer chairlift carries visitors up the mountain, affording fantastic views, and there is also a butterfly garden to explore – Jamaica is home to some of the biggest species in the world. The waterslide will undoubtedly go down a storm, and for the more adventurous visitors, an adrenaline-infused ride on the mountain zipwire is unmissable. Both parents and children will enjoy a memorable visit to Dolphin Cove. Located in nearby Ocho Rios, this stunning natural cove offers visitors the chance to swim with dolphins in their natural environment. Guests can also snorkel with stingrays and also get up close to Jamaica’s resident sharks. Surrounded by tropical forest, the cove also has a Jungle Trail where you can see exotic, colourful birds, impressive iguanas and snakes.
