Avella is an Italian town ofinhabitants in the province of Avellino in Campania. The cultivation of hazelnuts is renowned, which takes its name from this municipality. In Latin the fruit of the hazelnut is called nux avellana, while in Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese and Occitan the hazelnut is called respectively avellana, avellana, avelã and avelana. Located in the heart of a large basin of the Campania Apennines, it is surrounded to the north by the mountains of Avella and to the north-east by Montevergine, both part of the Partenio mountains.
