The historic centre has remained intact and not destroyed by mass tourism. It is a 'true' Italian medieval village. It is strategically almost equidistance from Oriveto and Todi. Too wonderful hill top towns full of history, art, food, wine and architectural marvels. If quiet country life gets to be too much the train to Roma which departs from Alviano (15 minutes by car) takes one hour. Or otherwise one can venture to Florence by train which takes a bit more time. Other fantastic day trips that we propose are to Perugia, Spello, Foligno, Bevagna, Spoleto, Assisi and Montefalco. There is bus service to Orvieto from the town. The train station is 15 minutes away. Otherwise it is best to have a car to visit all the lovely hillside towns and vineyards. We fell in love with this house at first site because of the craftsman's ship in it's stone work and terracotta roof. The house used to be a working farm. The peasants lived upstairs and the animals on the ground floor. The main entrance was a majestic huge staircase which a loggia. We converted it to a home paying close attention to detail using only the finest of material from the terracotta tiles, to travertine marble, peperino stone for the stair case and hand made wooden doors and windows. The colours of the walls reflect the colours of Orvieto and the historic colours that are found in paintings from this area of Italy. It was also the close proximity to Rome and Tuscany and multiple wonderful Umbrian hillside towns full of history that also convinced us that this was the place to be. We never tire of visiting the towns around us and the multiple vineyards for wine tasting. Note that Wine tasting can be organised as well as cooking classes and an in-house chef.
