Simple, rustic cottage set right on the waterfront and in a prime position to do absolutely nothing but just sit back and take in the amazing location & scenery. Castaway Cottage welcomes couples to experience a little slice of seaside heaven. The timber-lined cottage is cosy, simple and open-plan with combined kitchen & dining. Cooking facilities include 2 zone cooktop, microwave, a baby Webber BBQ (gas supplied), modern upright fridge/freezer. Queen bed on the ground level. A serene seaside escape where you will relax, unwind and rejuvenate your spirit. Privately located on a beautiful coastal farm and surrounded by Pohutukawa trees with ocean waves crashing (or lapping) against the rocky foreshore just metres below the cottage. Incredible unobstructed ocean views south over to Kuaotunu and Matarangi coastline and east to Great Mercury Island. If you are fortunate you may spot the dolphins or whales just offshore swimming. The rocky seashore invites snorkelling, fishing, sea- kayaking or beachcombing for treasures. Day trips can be comfortably taken from Castaway Cottage to explore the stunning & unique Northern Coromandel - native bush, pristine walk sand beaches - Little Bay, Waikawau Beach (surf beach) or visit Colville, Port Charles, Stony Bay. Guests have exclusive use of the cottage and surrounds. The drive to the cottage is private and once inside the driveway to the cottage you can shut the gate so people don't drive in. You may see a passing boat or two on the ocean or watch the local crayfishing (lobster) boat picking up his pots. The only other occupants to share this space are the birds and sea life! The owner resides some of the time on the property in the old farm house near the cottage is around to assist if needed. The holiday home manager is available via phone or messenger. Castaway Cottage is located in Tuateawa, Northern Coromandel - the last town for petrol and provisions is Coromandel Town which about 19 kms away and travel time to Tuateawa can take up to 25-30 minutes. The road from Coromandel Town to Tuateawa is partly sealed, narrow & windy but traveled daily by locals. Care should be taken - slow & steady will get you there. There are NO restaurants or cafe's in Tuateawa! Tuateawa is a coastal sleepy settlement with a sprinkling of local folks and holiday homes on the East coast of the Coromandel peninsula. There are fabulous coastal/sea views, rugged cliffs and is set in an area of native forest. Further north from Castaway Cottage - 10-15 minutes drive - to the beautiful and unspoilt sandy beaches of Little Bay and Waikawau. Little Bay is a sheltered cove, a safe beach for children with a lagoon and Pohutukawa trees for shade. Waikawau is a long stretch of golden sand, with good waves, popular with board riders and surf casters. Getting around - Self drive - cars are fine, 4 wheel drive even better :) Tuateawa is located approximately 30 minute drive from Coromandel Town - the last stop for petrol and provisions. Off the beaten track, this coastal area has a spectacular rocky coastline with high cliffs and rocky foreshore and fabulous flora and fauna - a true nature lover's paradise. Beautiful white sand beaches are located south at Kennedy Bay (6 kms) or north 10 kms to Little Bay and Waikawau. No shops out this way with Coromandel Town being the last stop for petrol & provisions. Waikawau DOC Camp Store open for basics + over the summer months approx 15 minutes drive North. Travelers who cancel at least 14 days before check-in will get back 100% of the amount they've paid. If they cancel between 7 and 14 days before check-in, they'll get back 50%.
