Welcome to our cozy, charming 1920 home, across the street from historic Simpson College. Indianola is just 12 minutes drive from the south side of Des Moines and 25 minutes to the city center. Our home is not luxe, but it's comfortable and peaceful. We hope you'll have a lovely, relaxing stay! Hi! We have a cozy, charming, 1920s home located across the street from Simpson College. 5 minute walk to the Des Moines Metro Opera location on campus. It’s a 3 bedroom, 1 and 3/4 bath home in a comfortable, eclectic style. Adorable enclosed front porch with porch swing . Central air-conditioning. Fireplace in living room. Hardwood floors throughout. And it’s just a happy home to be in! Please read all of the notes below, **before** inquiring about booking. I've found in the years I've been an AirBnb host, that most miscommunications can be prevented with some good communication. In your booking inquiry, please type the word "sunshine" so I know you read all of the notes. Thank you! ******Winter 2022 NOTE ABOUT PETS: I LOVE pets and have a dog and two cats myself. This home has original hardwood floors. We had a sweet rescue dog about 15 years ago who had a few accidents and while I can't smell anything, with their keen sense of smell, perhaps a dog still can. This may make some dogs want to "mark" in the house. If you want to bring your dog -- we'll need your agreement that your doggie will be in a kennel (that you bring with you) when you aren't with him or her. So if your dog is well house-trained, will be kenneled when you aren't there, will be leashed whenever let out in the backyard - and you agree to pick up dog waste immediately, then WELCOME! Go ahead and book - please let me know you have a dog when booking. :) *****ALSO PLEASE NOTE: I did have two friendly cats in the home for 20 years, so if you’re severely allergic, this might not be the place for you, unfortunately. There are no longer cats living in the house, but they did live there for 20 years so if you are very very allergic, you could have a reaction. Our home is 2 blocks from the town square, an easy 5 minute walk to the Corner Sundry, an old-fashioned soda fountain, to the local coffee cafe, and to banks, cute shops, hair salons and restaurants. The National Hot Air Balloon museum is here in town, too. Our main house rules are simple: Please no smoking in the house or on the front porch. Please treat our home the way you’d want yours treated if you were an AirBnB host. Cleanliness/Repairs NOTE: I keep the home reasonably clean and tidy but if you’re looking for a sterile, deep cleaned-daily environment, my home is NOT it. I mention this because I know everyone has a different idea of “clean," and if dust bunnies under a sofa freak you out, or if old homes are never clean enough for you, please don’t book. Likewise, if you expect a home in perfect repair in every way, please don't book. This is a 1920s home and it's not been renovated. I want you to be thrilled with your stay! Lastly, NOTE there is no T.V. hooked up to cable. We don't have cable. There is a t.v. but it's not hooked up to anything. If you bring the right cables, you may be able to hook up a laptop to it but otherwise, there's no t.v. There is wifi, though. We love our cozy, comfortable, welcoming home and we hope you do, too. Have a great day! You will typically have the home to yourself. If I will not be here when you arrive, I’ll give you information on how to gain access to the house. There is a quaint town square just a 5 minute walk from the house, with shops, restaurants and a coffee place. Also within walking distance is Buxton Park at Simpson College, a lovely, flower-filled (but not in winter) garden. Additionally, there are running and biking paths located about 10 minutes away by foot or 5 minutes or less by car. Downtown Des Moines is 25 minutes away by car and there is never any traffic. :) Easy drive to Des Moines including the lively Saturday morning Farmer's Market (in summers), which has been listed in many food magazines and websites as one of the very best in the nation! Note: There is not any regular public transport in Indianola. Car rental is usually plentiful at the Des Moines airport, a 20 minute drive away. Parking for up to 2 cars is available in the driveway, and more free parking is available on the street.
