Willoughby Island: private home & island!
Look. Listen. Breathe. Feel. Willoughby Island is a serene oasis (your own private island accessible by car)! Experience nature as it was in the beginning: sparkling, unspoiled and full of life. The whole island and house is yours, so you can have as much or as little human interaction as you'd like. Groceries, hardware, firewood, restaurants, bars, gas station and gifts are 2.5 miles away. Three kayaks, 4 tubes and a canoe (including life vests) are available! Listen to the waves and to the songs of the red-winged blackbird, chick-a-dee, robin, pileated wood pecker and bald eagle. Watch for deer, rabbits, turtles, frogs, ducks, sandhill crane and heron. A fire ring is located just south of the house, along with three chairs. The area is clear and protected from the wind by birch, poplar, cedar, tamarack and white pine trees. Handwritten notes left by previous guests: "We loved your house!! It was a wonderfully, peaceful, absolutely beautiful setting and the amenities are above and beyond." - Cheryl and husband "Amazing place and beautiful land you have! We look forward to visiting again!" - Scott and girlfriend Guests can access the whole property, which includes Willoughby Island, the house, a sandy beach and bay, the lake and a canoe/kayaks/tubes. Bring your own jet skis, bikes and boat. You can launch your boat at the Drummond Island Township Park just down the street and tie it up off the East side of the island (dock not included). Or you can contact Yacht Haven Marina for slip rental info. Phone, text and email. Willoughby Island and Drummond Island feature hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, boating, a 18-hole and a 9-hole golf course, one of the largest closed loop trail systems for off road ATV/ORV exploration in the United States, birding, shipwreck diving, cross country skiing, rare and beautiful "moon rock" at the Maxton Plains Alvar, spectacular nightly sunsets and a zillion stars in a sky streaked with occasional Northern Lights. You can get everywhere you need to go by car. You can also get most everywhere by bike. Willoughby Island is connected to the mainland of Drummond Island by a manmade road ("causeway"). To get to Drummond Island, take the Detour-Drummond car ferry across the St Mary's River. We'll provide directions from the ferry to the house.
