Get away to a charming mid-century cottage tucked into the woods with views across the lake to the pine forest. Load up the house picnic basket to take a meal down the path through a fern-covered hill to the dock. Take out the rowboat or a kayak to paddle on the calm waters. If you brave a few paces of wading in the shallows off the dock, the lake is great for a swim. Or just relax and watch for eagles soaring overhead. Lakefront 2-bedroom guest cottage over a double garage on just under 2 acres of forest and meadow on a private road across the yard from our main house, approximately 60 feet away. Under 2 hours from NYC Quiet non-motor lake Mid-century decor Ideal tranquil getaway The whole cottage (with lake views from both bedrooms) is yours with only our house next door. If you want a relaxing, peaceful, laid-back, super-cozy getaway, this rustic cottage is perfect. It's tucked into the woods, surprisingly quiet and private even though it's just a few hundred yards down a well-packed gravel road off a country thoroughfare. Both bedrooms have large windows with beautiful lake views. Though the bathroom could use updating, it’s authentic from the 50s, clean and functional. You are welcome to use the rowboat or the 2 kayaks we provide to paddle around the 19-acre stream-fed lake. Though quiet, the lake is bounded at its western tip by a road with occasional passing vehicle (see the area map below). Once the spring burn ban is over after May 15, you can make a fire in the firepit by the lakefront. Be sure to fill the bucket with water and keep it handy, just as a precaution. Our house is right across the yard, approximately 60’ away. There are 4 other houses on the private lake. Please respect the neighbors whom you cannot see from the house. No fireworks. No loud music. Our cleaning procedures during the current health crisis: Before your arrival, the cottage is vacant for 3 days. The cottage will have freshly laundered sheets and towels. We clean thoroughly and are especially careful disinfecting counters, doorknobs, faucets and light switches. We ask that you and your party observe all state and local health recommendations during your stay. Depending on how things evolve, it may be a good idea to bring supplies to carry you over till you get your bearings in the area. WiFi service is recently upgraded to Spectrum internet with WiFi. If you want to connect a laptop to the television, please bring your own HDMI cable. Otherwise, feel free to use the WiFi service to connect with your content providers. Or go old-school and help yourself to DVD viewing. Guests have access to the entire 2-acre property grounds. You are welcome to enjoy the shared patio with garden furniture and the lakefront with dock, firepit, rowboat and 2 kayaks. Floats and noodles for the lake (very relaxing!) are stored either by the lake or under the deck of the main house for your use. Many of our guests enjoy swimming in the lake. A charcoal grill complete with supplies is outside the kitchen door for your private use. Puzzles and board games are on a bookshelf in the cabin. TV with DVD player is connected to the WiFi service in the cabin. You may want to bring an HDMI cable to connect a laptop for your own movie nights. Please note: only registered guests are permitted on the property. We're occasionally present during your stay at the main house next door across the yard. We’re always accessible by phone, text (best) or email. Forestburgh is known as winter home to nesting bald eagles. Watch for them over our lake and at observation blinds at the Mongaup Reservoir an easy mile away down the road from the Forestburgh Playhouse. Forestburgh Playhouse offers world-class summer stock theater and weekend cabaret just 5 minutes walk down the road. Forestburgh General Store is the closest store, just over a mile north for fine coffee, sandwiches, organic food and warm, helpful people. Monticello, our nearest town, is 10 minutes north with Aldi, 3 supermarkets, drugstores, restaurants and diners and a weekly farmers’ market. Heading south, we're 20 minutes from Port Jervis and the Delaware River. Bethel Woods (the site of Woodstock 1969) is 25 mins away west on route 17B for the Woodstock museum and entertainment under the stars at the Bethel Woods Performance Arts Center. You might want to reserve tickets or schedule a special date. Along route 17B you’ll find a number of antique shops leading to a quaint strip of restaurants and shops on Kauneonga (White) Lake. The area offers white-water rafting on the Delaware River, horseback riding, petting farms, golf courses, farmers' markets with home-baked goods, a saloon/distillery, antique stores and flea markets, a casino, Holiday Mountain, a ski and fun park and nearby on Hartwood Club Road, Oakland Valley Go-cart Racing. The Neversink Forever Wild area is nearby for ambitious walking with beautiful waterfalls to discover. If you like to gamble, the brand new Catskill Resorts World Casino is 10 minutes away. Bus service NYC to Monticello, 10 mins away NJ Transit train service from NYC to Otisville, 20 mins away Taxi available to/from Monticello. No smoking. No parties, loud music, events or fireworks. No pets. Note: Only registered guests allowed on the property. If you want to connect a laptop to the television, please bring your own HDMI cable. Otherwise, feel free to use the WiFi service to connect with your content providers. Or go old-school and help yourself to DVD viewing. The stone steps down to the lake have been updated, though it's a good idea to use the hand railing and take it easy.
