Our house, located in Historic Pullman (National Monument), was built in 1881 by industrialist and creator of the Pullman sleeping car, George Pullman. While the interior is tastefully rehabbed, the exterior and community have the same charm of the late 1800s. If you love art, our home showcases art from local artists. Neighbors are friendly, the community is quiet and loaded with history. We will greet guests. Our home is a getaway ....for out-of-town travelers!! Our home is cozy and inviting. The rooms are airy with each one having an eclectic assortment of artwork. My husband and I live in the community and will respond to questions/concerns within an hour. Located on the southside of Chicago, Historic Pullman, designated a National Monument in 2015, offers a rich history of history on industrialization and the labor movement, and currently is enjoying exciting community revitalization. Private and group tours can be made by special arrangement. A self-guided tour with brochure is available. Stop by the Pullman Café for coffee, a pastry and sandwich or for comfort food at Cal-Habor Restaurant and Lounge, a neighborhood staple for more than 40 years! Pullman also boasts of a Visitor's Center with a 15-minute introductory video on the town's history through today's preservation efforts, and exhibits featuring historic photos and Pullman-related items. The Visitor's Center, will open inside the Historic Pullman Clock Tower and Administration Building by Labor Day 2020. Pullman Artspace Lofts, a new 38-unit development for artists, will be fully operational by the end of 2019. The A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum, honoring and celebrating the legacy of A. Philip Randolph, Pullman Porters, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and contributions made by African-Americans to America’s labor movement, is located in the community. Exciting things are always happening in Pullman! Some of the annual events are: Anniversary Commemorating 1894 Pullman Strike (May) Historic Pullman Garden Walk (June) Pullman Art Walk (July) Labor Day Celebration (September) Historic Pullman House Walk (October) Candlelight House Walk (December) One of the newest community developments is the Pullman Food Hall, which houses a bakery and two restaurants--one vegan--is within walking distance as well as Potbelly's and McDonald's. A shopping center, including Walmart, Planet Fitness, and other retail stores are located nearby. Metra (4 blocks) Taxi cab City bus Uber Lyft 20-30 minutes from: McCormick Place Millennium Park Soldier Field Museum Campus Buckingham Fountain Theatre District Water Tower Magnificent Mile
