Croton on Hudson is a quiet and welcoming community 45 min away from Grand Central, NYC. Croton has beautiful views of Hudson river nearby, surrounded by wooded hills and creeks. Rich with history, art and nature it is truly a weekend retreat. It is a place of several seasonal festivals like Clearwater Music and the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze. •Close to the train station (‘Croton Harmon’). •Walking distance from everything. •☕Black Cow – a great local place to have a cup of coffee. •❄️Blue Pig – a local ice cream shop with a great selection of seasonal flavors. •☘️Grand Stand – a local bar with occasional live music. •⌛A pedestal “dummy streetlight”, on the way to coffee shop you will pass a street light, one of just three left in New York State, a little piece of history. •Parks, bicycle trails and hiking. •☀️Teatown Lake Reservation has 1000 acres and 15 miles of trails. •⛰️Croton Gorge Park has 97 acres by the stunning waterfall from the New Croton Dam. Weddings and picnics often take place here. •⌛Van Cortlandt Manor, a National Historic Landmark, built in 1665 by the Dutch. Hosts the Lantern Blaze in the fall •⛱️⛵Croton Landing Park offers beautiful views of the Hudson River and the Palisades. Contains a 9/11 memorial tribute. Great location for cycling or picnics. •⛺Croton Point Park hosts the annual Clearwater Festival in June (since 1966) with 15,000 visitors and live music. • ⛰️⛷️Mount Peter Skiing area (50min drive): Free lessons for beginners every hour. Family oriented. Lighting after dark and capacity to make snow throughout the season. •⛰️⛷️There is another ski area (‘Thunder Ridge’) 40min drive away. If you want to get into the holiday spirit, there many events and performances to attend in the area like Dickens's 'Christmas Carol' in Sleepy Hollow, NY and the Holiday Boutique at Philipsburg Manor Museum Shop (limited time events, check for availability in advance). If you don’t have a car⛽, Uber is readily available (❤️). Although having a car makes it easier to get around, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself in the area without one. A respectable walkscore of 62 with plenty of sidewalks in the village and places to eat and drink located relatively close. There is Enterprise car rental in Croton too. Although Croton on Hudson is a suburb of New York City, there are some wild animals and birds that you may encounter from time to time. During summer time there are blue jays and other birds living in magnolia trees near the house and on occasion deer and raccoons could be spotted. A beautiful hawk lives nearby and can be seen in the morning as it flies above the house. Away from industry and pollution, enjoy a breath of clean air and the outdoors. If you go hiking, take note that poison ivy has been spotted in the area and, as always, there are risks of ticks in any woods and tall grass, so dress appropriately. There is abundant information about ticks and tick bites on internet, it is worthwhile to be informed. Streets in the village are illuminated but driveways tend to be a bit darker. It is noticeably darker at night on the street, compared to a large city like New York, but as an added bonus, you could see stars! Mars’ red dot is easily seen with a naked eye as well as white dots of Jupiter and Saturn. Orion's belt, Ursa Major and Minor, Vega, Polaris and many more to be discovered. Even though Croton on Hudson is a relatively small village, it is not “lost in the woods” and has a walk score of 62. The roads may be somewhat active during rush hour, although there is no traffic jams or congestion in the village, to and from train station. As soon as you leave the populated area and go into a natural park like the Tea Town Lake Reservation, you can enjoy nature to its fullest with 1000 acres of protected terrain and 15 miles of hiking trails. Note: There is an outdoor security camera at the bottom of the stairs facing out. A second camera is at the parking lot.
