Beautiful lodge set in a magical garden with folly
Gardenside Lodge is quietly nestled away in our beautiful garden in Low Etherley, a small tranquil village ideally situated for exploring County Durham with its many footpaths, cycle routes and historical attractions including the magical Kynren show held at Auckland Castle. Within only 30 minutes you can be exploring Barnard Castle, Weardale, Durham City or just 10 minutes more and you are transported back in time at Beamish Open Air Museum or stood viewing the magical High Force waterfall. Gardenside Lodge is on one level , encompassing 2 bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, shower room and open plan lounge and dining room. The open plan living room/dining room ensures a light and airy welcome and provides wonderful views across the garden where you can enjoy watching the wildlife and incredible sunrises and sunsets. The kitchen is well equipped with oven, microwave, cups, plates and kitchen utensils. You can even enjoy watching the birds feed while preparing your meals. Bedroom 1: A cosy room consisting of a double bed, storage alcove with hanging rail and 2 bedside tables. Bedroom 2: Is a small room with bunk bed and under bed storage. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. The lodge is surrounded by a stunning large garden where you will be spoiled for choice in choosing where to sit to enjoy the birds, squirrels, rabbits and plants. However, we would recommend spending at least one night (weather permitting) sitting in the folly (which was made by the host) with a drink and a cosy fire, there really is nothing quite like it! Low Etherley is well served by the town of Bishop Auckland (10 minutes drive) where you will find supermarkets, pubs, cafes, restaurants and the local farm shop. Tranquil village with numerous walks from the doorstep. We are spoiled with beautiful nature reserves, local river walks and cycle routes. Within 10 minutes you can access the main town of Bishop Auckland which has a variety of shops, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants which cater for all tastes or explore the local area and visit the award winning pub The Copper Mine, Crook or maybe you are feeling extravagant, within 20 minutes you can taste Michellin Star food at the Raby Hunt Inn, Darlington. We offer a wonderful base to explore everything County Durham, Weardale and Teesdale have to offer, including the Weardale Way, Teesdale Way, Beamish Open Air Museum, Raby Castle, Auckland Castle, the amazing Kynren show, Low Barns Nature Reserve, Escomb Saxon Church, Hamsterley Forest and many, many more. Situated on the B6282 you have easy access to the main A1 should you wish to visit the City of Durham with its incredible Cathedral or City of Newcastle. Ample free parking at Gardenside Lodge. Local Bus Stop from Etherley to Bishop Auckland where you can access the main bus station or train station.
