Our 2-story rustic cabin is the perfect Mineral retreat. Plenty of privacy, big spaces indoor and out for gatherings, and a modern kitchen with all the conveniences. Near Lassen Park, Mineral is a great walking town in all seasons, with majestic trees and a glorious meadow. Streets are plowed in winter, and cool summers bring respite from the valley heat. We have bikes for young and old to explore the streets in town, or ride to the playground. There's a piano, a large book collection featuring natural history, local history, children's books, fiction and non-fiction; TV playback with DVD collection (no cable); puzzles, board games, building blocks, art supplies. The walk-in pantry has basics like popcorn, pasta, canned goods, condiments, for emergencies. Fresh produce is not available at the Mineral Store. (But they have everything you need for S'mores!) We have a small cottage in back of the main house where we sometimes stay. We are a phone call, and an hour's drive away for any questions or needs. Lassen Volcanic National Park is a jewel, with endless trails and lakes, informative visitor center with museum, bookstore, and café. There are many other places to discover including Spencer Meadows; Heart Lake; the Mt. Turner Lookout; Battle Creek swimming holes; Lake Almanor; the café at Mineral Lodge (WiFi); the café at Mill Creek Resort; the restaurant at Highlands Ranch in Childs Meadow; and fine restaurants and groceries in Chester. Mineral is a great town for bicycling in the summer, both around town up Mineral Summit. The Community Walk from Mineral to Mill Creek is held every year on Labor Day weekend. The Annual Dark Sky Festival at Lassen Park is held in August. Walk, run, bike, sled, snowshoe, cross-country ski! Short drive to Lassen Park. The road through Lassen Park is generally closed from November through May, depending on Spring snow removal, but the Visitor Center is open year-round. No gas in Mineral; the closest filling stations are in Red Bluff and Chester. Parking is limited to our carport and driveway, which fits 3 cars. There is NO street parking in winter to maintain snowplow clearance and protect sensitive plantings in front, but overflow parking is available at the summer house next door, to our west, which we keep plowed for that purpose. In summer, one additional car may park in front, close to our driveway, but must maintain clearance for neighbors across the street.
