Cosy village cottage close to Bath and Bristol.
Located in the ancient village of Doynton, Appletree is a little gem if you want peace and quiet but, want to be within a short drive of Bath (15min), Bristol (20min) and the Cotswolds. The cottage is beautifully converted, with everything you will need for a relaxing stay. The countryside is outside the door and a 2min walk, a fantastic food pub - The Cross House. With the Cotswolds on your doorstep, places such as Westonbirt Arboretum, Badminton and Dyhram Park (NT) are a short drive. All rooms have underfloor heating, to ensure that you have a cosy stay if it’s cold outside. Please note that the accom is for 1 or 2 adults. It is not set up to be baby or child safe. Parking is right outside the cottage (your own parking space) on a drive shared with the main cottage. There is an automatic outside light to welcome you in the evening. Further (free/unrestricted) parking is available a minute walk away by the village green/church. If we are around we will always say hello! Either way we are always ready to answer any questions online (and solve any problems, which hopefully you will never have!) Near the village orchard (hence the cottage name), where there are oak benches to sit and relax. Lots of lovely walks around the surrounding village area, from your doorstep. After that walk, treat yourself to a drink/food at The Cross House pub in the village (book for food to avoid disappointment). There are many other villages within walking distance or a short drive with traditional pubs too. You can even join part of the Cotswold way and take a beautiful walk into Bath (2 hours). Taxi’s back to the village are approximately £20. The village is mentioned in the Doomsday Book - a plaque of the entry is just next to the village pub. In the centre of the village is The Holy Trinity Church, a Grade II listed building. The church dates back to Saxon times and was largely rebuilt between 1864 and 1867. It features 12th century herringbone masonry on the south wall – rather unique in this part of the country. It also has a 12th century leper window, again situated in the south wall, and has a 13th century Lady Chapel. Well worth a look! Some useful websites for your stay: The village has its own web-site which contains lots of interesting village information including events (will you be there for a cinema night, quiz night or maybe a cider feast?)
