The Cottage at Cheviot Landing is steps to the Hudson River with a glorious view of the Catskills in a charming hamlet in a delightful small town. It's a great place for a week's getaway or to settle down for a long escape. It's definitely a sanctuary for one and a cozy cottage for two. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the river -- sailboats and barges, sunsets and sunrises, eagles and ice floes. You will be a short ride to great history, theater, music, dance, museums, restaurants, and shops of all kinds. Due to the pandemic no one knows what will be open and what will be closed. But we can assure you that there is always the wonderful outdoors. Bring a book, your paints, camera, saxophone, or you work-from-home needs and plan to relax. The cottage boasts an open, loft style floor plan with a full kitchen and outdoor grill for you to cook up a meal after visiting the local farm markets. Everything for a satisfying breakfast will be provided for you to "make your own breakfast" for your first two mornings. Depending on the season you may see kayakers and fishermen. Bring your gear. The New York State website offers instant fresh water fishing licenses and will tell you what is in season. Take our kayaks out on the river -- we've got life jackets too. We are just steps away if you need anything, and we may come through the gate to work in the yard or grab something from a shed. You may find Lee working in his studio in the basement. We love to tell stories of the area and our favorite haunts and just about anything else, and have a book of local attractions and restaurants on the desk. Our hamlet dates back to the 1700's when it had its own school and post office. Farmers' carts would line up on the road down to the river and travel over a causeway to what is now a tiny island where they would load their produce onto barges that would carry them down to New York City. You can see the remains of the causeway at low tide. Many of the old homes still exist and many gone thru creative transformations. Your nest, we believe, was an small barn that belonged to the manor house next door. Come by kayak -- we are only steps to a beautiful landing. We are seventeen miles to Rhinebeck, eleven to Hudson, and eight to Bard College. The Amtrak Empire Line comes up from New York City and stops in Rhinebeck and Hudson. Enterprise Car Rental will pick you up at the Hudson train station. Like the Vanderbilts and the Roosevelts we live quite contently with the sights and sounds of the railroad as well as the river. Yes it goes into the night . . .
