Off-Grid Eco Tiny Mountain Home with Epic Views
**Booking starting March 2022 under new management.** Overlooking a spectacular view of Puerto Rico's Cordillera Central and the distant Caribbean coastline, this splendid, secluded, off-grid tiny home is a most lovely place to disconnect from the noise of the world. Start a fire in the fire pit, BBQ with the charcoal grill, brew a hot chocolate, and lounge under the stars. And lastly, fall asleep to the award-winning sounds of the Cayey Philharmonic Coqui & Cricket Symphony Orchestra. The Slanty Shanty is an off-grid, newly refurbished 28ft aluminum container and is equipped with solar panels. In spite of it's "tiny" nature, it feels spacious and cozy inside. There is a very comfortable queen sized bed from which you can enjoy the spectacular mountain views through the very large main window, all while cozying up with that special someone, in total privacy. Enjoying cool mornings and witnessing stunning sunsets while lounging in the patio in the early evening are the shanty's strong suits. There is ample ventilation with the door, windows, and large rolling door all having screens to let the breeze in and keep things cool. From the land, which looks west, you can often watch the fog roll in over the mountains as the sun sets into the sea. The property is a walk (or very short drive 2 minutes) from restaurant "Delizias a Leña" , where you can enjoy fresh pasta and delicious brick oven baked pizza as well as other perfectly cooked local staples. It's a five minute drive to "El Pretexto" and Hacienda Siempre Viva's "Cocina en Movimiento", both acclaimed culinary establishments focused on locally sourced food and five course meals. The tiny home is also a short drive to several other great restaurants like "The Sand and the Sea" (5 minutes) and the well known "El Mesón de Melquiades" (famous for their corned beef alcapurrias), on the way (10 minutes) to which you will enjoy spectacular views of the natural protected area "La Robleda" which blooms a stunning pink during the month of July. Also you can find "Lechonera El Cuñao" (12 minutes) where you can enjoy the famous roast pork of Puerto Rico. Down in Cayey (15-20 minute drive) you'll find Bocão by Chef Pípe, food truck. You can also enjoy "Guavate" (25 minutes), Guavate is known as the "pork highway" where you would find "Lechonera" after "Lechonera". What is Lechonera? Restaurants that serve "Lechón" (Roast Pork). If you want to enjoy a great Mac N' Cheese with a "Mojito" in the "Guavate" route we recommend "Casita Guavate". If you feel like having "Tacos" or "Burritos" we recommend "Ramonita's Tacos" (12 minutes). If you are looking to explore quiet trails is a five minutes drive to "El Bosque De Pinos" (Pine Trees Forest) where you would experience spectacular views. If you are a climber, it is a quick twenty minute drive to Las Tetas, one of the most scenic climbing locations on the island (and the only location with significant multi-pitch climbing). If you'd like to hire a climbing guide, we are happy to recommend some. The land is at the bottom of a steep hill, behind a private gate. Is important to have precaution coming down the hill. Putting your car in first gear is key to making the hill more than manageable to climb up when exiting. We've done the climb in sedans, down to even a Honda Fit. You just have to put your car in first gear and be deliberate and consistent with your acceleration, especially when/if it's been raining. You can email us or text us and we will provide contact information after you make your reservation. Cercadillo is best known for its panoramic views and its excellent restaurants. It should be mentioned, that Cercadillo is reliably ten degrees cooler than the urban and coastal areas of the island! Transportation by car is necessary to get to our spot in the mountains. But there are some beautiful bike rides all around if you are on a bike tour, or if you rent or own a bike. As it is an off-grid tiny home, energy is limited so we ask people to be very conscious about their water and energy use, specifically at night (at which you point the lights, refrigerator, and water pump depend on a set of charged batteries, as there is no longer direct solar energy). **MISUSE at night and not following the energy guidelines explained in the house manual/parameters can result in power failure until the sun returns the next day. ** Hosts will provide a LIMITED amount of wood for the fire pit, and coal, and lighter fluid for the grill. You can gather kindling and sticks/twigs from the property if you desire. There is a small market just a five minute drive down the hill from the house, which can provide you with most essentials. For a wider variety of food options and supplies you'll have to drive down to the town of Cayey (just fifteen minutes to Ralph's grocery store and twenty minutes to Wal-Mart). It would be wise to buy groceries before arriving/driving up.
