Welcome to Middle Earth country property. Far enough from town to be private and peaceful, yet close enough to enjoy nearby charming Calistoga or the upscale Healdsburg and St. Helena. Soak up the serenity of the northern part of Napa & southern part of Sonoma wine countries -- Knights Valley. Relax in the comfortable indoors and the inviting country outdoors with decks, views and a gazebo. Perfect for couples, solo adventurers, and biz travelers. You’ll love our spacious 900 +-square foot upstairs suite with a bedroom, bath, coffee bar amd mini-kitchenette (sink, mini-frig and microwave only), foyer, and living room. It is newly remodeled and decorated with french-country inspiration and a sprinkling of Italy influence. There is a breakfast nook with a view of the mountain and all the other comforts of home. The walls are adorn, in part, with original art painted by the owner's late husband, an accomplished painter. Beyond the upstairs, guests have full access to our "slice of heaven" as previous guests have described it. Hike and explore the 18-acre parcel -- in the woods -- or take a bike ride on nearby country roads through the vineyards. Of course, guests are encouraged to enjoy other outdoor amenities -- the deck, barn and gazebo. We are available as much or as little as you like. Have it your way. Settle in for some rejuvenating alone time or share a bottle of wine and gourmet cheese with the Madonna the host. Talk wine (some of our family is in the wine business) or of the world; she is well traveled and well read. Or do both -- your privacy, relaxing in the romantic suite or in the gazebo overlooking the 18-acre parcel and some social time. A few other winemakers and wine lovers alike live nearby and love to socialize. Either way, you'll have a splendid time at Chateau Middle Earth. Middle Earth is located in Knights Valley - an American viticultural area. The warmest climate of all the 16 Sonoma county appellations, it is spectacular, rural and peaceful. It is certainly one of, if not the most, pristine wine regions. The quiet country roads are a result of no "walk-in" winery tasting rooms in the area; it is necessary to make appointments, so there isn't out-of-town traffic. The 37,000 acres has over 30 growers maintaining the 2,000 acres planted to wine grape vineyards. The region is known for: world-class Chardonnay and Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc that consistently earn acclaim from critics and wine lovers alike. Mega wineries Kendall Jackson and Beringers use grapes from the region. Other wineries located nearby are: Storybook Winery, Peter Michael Winery and Chateau Montelana among others. Since we are 4 miles or 8 to 10 minutes out of town it is necessary to have a car. Uber is available in the area. Nearby Calistoga in it's small town charm is full of wonderful eateries, wineries and shopping. Treat yourself to a massage or one of Calistoga's famous mud baths. For those of you who love a little nightlife, head to the Hydro in downtown Calistoga for a drink, a bite and some live music. Restaurant and winery recommendations available upon request. A bit of history: the house was built before turn of the century by a ship captain with a stagecoach stop just up the road.
