Lillooet is nestled in a river valley surrounded by mountains and has a desert climate. The winter's are very short, and not much snowfall, if any. But it is within 30 minutes of driving to snow activities toward Pemberton. By March we are headed into spring and summers are Hot! Lillooet is part of the unceded territory of the Northern St'at'imc (shtat-lee-um) peoples, which is a First Nations group in the area. The town is surrounded by 6 vibrant First Nations Communities T'it'q'et (clee-kit), Sekw'el'was (shkel-wash), Xaxli'p (haw-clip), Ts'kw'aylaxw (Tsh-kwhy-lak), Xwisten (hoisten) and Tsal'alh (sha-lath). Annually, the St’at’imc people from North and South celebrate St’at’imc Day around May 10th. This marks the day of the proclamination by their ancestors of the Declaration of the Lillooet Tribe. Each year, a different community hosts the celebration and people travel to attend. Visitors are always welcome to come and celebrate and learn the history. In addition to this, there is a celebration of New years Eve with a pow wow, all are also welcomed to this. The First Nations in the area are very open and welcoming as long as you practice cultural humility and come with an open heart ❤️. Lillooet is also home to a growing multicultural community, so you will find an expanding selection of international spices and ingredients at the local grocery store. Around May long weekend, the town of Lillooet usually has a parade called the May Day parade, and they crown a kind a queen for this. The town has a rich history related to the gold rush and was actually Mile 0 on the gold trail. Outdoor activities are ample in this area. Some things to explore are: Red Rock Hiking Trail Xwisten Tours Horseshoe Canyon Seton Lake (crystal blue swimming waters close to town) Pavilion Lake (emerald Green swimming waters 30 mins from town) Splitrock Spawning Channels BC Hydro Campground Seton Ridge Take a drive out to Tsal'alh it's about 1.5 hours on a partly paved road with spectacular views! (check road conditions before leaving) OR a train goes to Tsal'alh 2 times a week, Friday is when goes and comes back, the train schedule is posted on the train station which is only 1/2km from the house. Mile 0 is a taxi companyin town. There are electric bikesto rent in town There is a bus that travels to Kamloops and leaves from the Renoylds Hotel. Train that goes to Tsal'alh 2 times a week.
