The Old Vicarage at Oakridge: The Master Suite
Set on the edge of the Golden Valley, The Old Vicarage offers peace and quiet in a rural setting and is perfectly located for exploring the Cotswolds. Built in 1838 in the classic Georgian style, The Old Vicarage is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are on the edge of the village, next to St Bartholomews' church. The house itself has many period features such as large rooms, open fireplaces, high ceilings and recently restored window shutters. We sit in an acre of gardens, facing south with views across the Golden Valley, overlooking our own land. We have three bedrooms for guests: THE SLEIGH ROOM (Bedroom One) This elegant, spacious room is full of light. Guests have access to their accommodation and the dining room for breakfast. This can be served outside on the terrace if weather is suitable. We have an acre of garden which guests are free to explore and local footpath over our fields. We are always available to help with any queries, so please don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. We can offer advice on the local area such as where to eat, walking routes and places of interest to visit. We also respect guests privacy and independence and ask that they do the same for us. Oakridge Lynch has its roots in the silk weaving industry of the 19th Century. It is now a thriving community with a popular local shop and primary school. There is also a beauty therapist based in the village. -Flora and fauna abound and it is not unusual to see deer, pheasants, foxes and rabbits from the bedroom windows! We have several sites of special scientific interest within walking distance where rare orchids and butterflies can be spotted. At the bottom of the valley runs the old Severn and Thames canal, which provides lovely walks, as does the Wysis way which runs through the village. The Cotswolds way is also close by. -There are many leisure activities on offer locally, including gliding and hot air balloon flights from nearby Aston Down, the multi award-winning Stroud Farmers' Market every Saturday morning and plenty of real country pubs serving excellent food and local ales. -Within easy reach are many historic villages and towns including Cirencester, a pretty market town dating back to roman times. Cheltenham is 30 minutes by car, perfect for a day at the races or a spot of retail therapy! A car is preferable as we are a little off the beaten track, although Kemble station is only 15 minutes away by taxi. Trains run regularly from London Paddington with a journey time of around 1 hour 20 minutes. We have off-street parking and a secure lock-up for bikes. The pretty villages of Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold are less than 45 minutes away. Bath, Bristol and Bristol International Airport are within an hour. We have a 2 night minimum stay at weekends and peak season (May - September). We are not able to accommodate children under 14 years. We have 2 friendly dogs, Molly (a Golden Retriever) and Poppy (a Fox Terrier). They are not allowed in the guest areas but would be delighted to say hello if you wish! For breakfast we serve local produce when available and homemade jams and marmalades, with local honey. On arrival we welcome you with tea and homemade cake in the drawing room, a chance to introduce ourselves and our home. Check-in is between 4pm - 7pm. Please advise if you need to arrive outside these times. Check-out is 11am. We have no street lights in the village so night lights and torches are provided. You can see the stars!
