Stylish converted Stables in Dulcote nr Wells
The Stables is located in Dulcote village, just a short walk from Wells in Somerset. The Stables, to the rear of the main house, is furnished with an eclectic mix of modern and period furniture. A large open plan living space contains an extremely comfortable squishy sofa, a 46’ flat screen TV, I-phone dock (cunningly disguised as a retro radio) and of course, super-fast Wifi. A well equipped kitchen has everything you could possible want to create a feast – and after a visit to the delectable farmers’ market in Wells, you may well want to! A stylish zinc-topped dining table completes the picture. Beds are supremely comfortable with pocket sprung mattresses and crisp, white cotton bedlinen. There is a modern bathroom containing a bath with a shower over and underfloor heating . A second bathroom, boasts a large walk-in shower. Outside there is an enclosed area for your own private use, with decking, seating and a BBQ. The cottage is on one level so is suitable for all, although there is a small step up to the front door. In the summer, guests may share our 12m outdoor heated swimming pool, situated in the walled courtyard, between 11am and 6pm. We open the pool at the start of June/May half term and close it at the end of August: Weather permitting of course! It is quite a deep pool, even at the shallow end, so is not suitable for non-swimmers or young children (sorry, NO TODDLERS or UNDER 5s). Although we are unable to welcome under-5s, the property is great for those with babes in arms and we have a travel cot and high chair you may use. There is also a pram-friendly path that leads from Dulcote directly into Wells – just long enough to get them off to sleep! We can also arrange babysitting if you so require. DURING JULY & AUGUST WE ONLY TAKE ONE WEEK BOOKINGS STARTING ON A FRIDAY. At other times there is a 3 night minimum stay midweek and 2 nights at weekends. From September till May (except bank and school holidays) our WEEKEND RATE includes a late check out - whenever you like on Sunday. GLASTONBURY WEEK - 5 night minimum stay. We also have 2 b&b rooms in the main house sleeping an extra 4 people should you be a party of 8. Please ask for rates. We are in a great location for exeat visits to the following schools: Millfield Prep (15mins), Millfield (20mins), Downside School (20 mins), Wells Cathedral School (2mins), All Hallows Prep (20mins) The following local attractions are also nearby: Bath & West Showground, Wookey Hole Caves, Glastonbury Festival Site, Kilver Court Designer Village and the Mulberry Factory Shop. Bath and Bristol are both a 45 minute drive away. We have tried to think of everything to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible but we or our trusted friends in the village are always on hand should you need anything else. Guests may roam freely in the orchard, directly in front of The Stables. There is a firepit there that you are welcome to use to toast marshmallows. Just collect fallen branches from the trees along the river bank. The pool is available from June to August between 11am and 6pm. I am usually here to answer any questions so just come and knock on our front door or send me a text or email. Occasionally we go away, and then a friend in a neighbouring village looks after The Stables. She will be on hand throughout your stay. Wells, England’s smallest City, is a twenty minute walk along a paved footpath across the Bishop’s Palace fields. Visit the exquisite cathedral, described by Pevsner as one of Britain’s finest; stroll around the moated Bishop’s Palace where the swans ring a bell at feeding time or simply browse the delightful shops around the historic Market Square. Wednesdays and Saturdays are market day when the superb Farmers Market comes to town. Wells also boasts a cinema, swimming pool and leisure centre. There are two golf courses within 2 miles, the Blagdon and Chew Valley trout lakes are within about 10 miles and there are theatres at Bath (15 miles) and Bristol (18 miles). Racing is at Bath, Taunton, Salisbury, and Wincanton. Nearby attractions also include Glastonbury Tor, Wookey Hole Caves, Cheddar Gorge, Longleat House, Stourhead House & Gardens to name but a few. It is best to have a car to explore the local area but if not, Dulcote is on a good bus route to Bath. You can get to many locations including Bristol and Bath from the Bus Station in Wells. The nearest mainline train station is Castle Cary, with regular direct trains to and from London Paddington. It is possible to get a cab from the station to Dulcote - Cathedral Taxis in Wells can give you rates. We own a very friendly Labrador Retriever who may come and greet you when you arrive. Please let us know if this may be a problem and we will keep her inside. Note: She is NOT allowed in The Stables or in your private decked area, nor are any other dogs/pets.
