Charming 15th century 3 bedroom cottage
Our self contained and spacious 3 bedroom cottage is part of a grade 2 listed farmhouse, the oldest rooms dating back to the early 1400’s, but with modern conveniences such as a fully stocked kitchen and wifi. Next to a working farm, it has a private garden and patio, & if it’s raining, do use our conservatory to relax in. Entering through the front door into the kitchen (mind your head!), you are in the oldest part of the house. Beyond that you will find two spacious reception rooms, one with comfy chairs and TV, one with dining table and sideboard containing games. Upstairs are the three bedrooms and bathroom. Outside the cottage, the garden wraps around the building. There's a private patio and lawn, with a number of flower beds. The conservatory is available for guests if they wish to use it on cool or wet days. We have space for two cars/small vans. There is no parking on the road. We have a shed to lock bikes in if you bring them. Guests are welcome to walk or sit anywhere in our garden. I live right next door so feel free to knock and ask for help or tell me I’ve forgotten something. The property is set back from the road and beside a farm. It is generally peaceful, though can be noisier during harvest. There are three places to eat in Feering, our local, The Bell, and further away, The Blue Anchor and The Sun. Over the river is Kelvedon with the station, doctor’s surgery, dentists, hairdressers, a wine bar and assorted shops. Just up the road is the oldest town in England, Colchester with Roman remains, a zoo, a castle, cinemas, art gallery, and plenty of shopping & places to eat. Essex boasts some fine gardens, including The Beth Chatto Garden, the RHS’s Hyde Hall, The Gardens of Easton Lodge, The Gibberd Garden, and many more. There are also some beautiful villages and towns to explore and lovely stretches of coastline, as well as easy access to Suffolk and Norfolk. The house is 2 miles from the mainline to London/Norwich, and 1/2 mile to the bus stop (Colchester/Chelmsford). There is parking at Kelvedon station and Witham - useful as there are more trains to and from London. Busses run to Chelmsford and Colchester along the A12, bustop is around 1/2 mile from the cottage. If shopping in any of the villages around here, parking is generally easy and free, but take care of any parking restrictions in Feering and Kelvedon. We have 7 cats and a very friendly dog. They don’t understand the concept of privacy so I apologise if they drop in uninvited. Please ask about assistance dogs coming to stay though. The kitchen ceiling is very low, just watch your head! The garden is unfenced (we hope to rectify that in the summer) and beside a working farm. Tractors and other vehicles do go past, so please keep a close eye on children and there will be some tractor noise during harvest. We also have an unfenced pond.
