During the First World War, the village was used by the army which had an extensive veterinary hospital for horses. After the war the camps were split up into agricultural small holdings and the army huts were used as dwellings; part of this cottage was the army cook house, hence the name. There were many huts here in the 1960’s however The Old Cook House is the only remaining army hut in the area.
