Nekia Flat/Amity Flats: history, wine, luxury
Amity Flats is a boutique inn in a renovated, historic building with five separate rooms that can be rented individually or as an entire unit. The Nekia Flat has a king bed and a foldout sofa with a full bath and well-equipped kitchen. A lovely shared deck includes a gas BBQ, ping pong table, and outdoor seating. The Amity Flats are in the small, pastoral city of Amity Oregon, "gateway to the Eola-Amity Hills wineries, with dozens of wineries producing world class wines. The rooms are beautifully appointed. The hosts provide a complimentary bottle of wine on request as well as locally-produced fudge and gourmet coffee. The hosts live nearby on a farm/vineyard, and stock rooms with fresh fruit and eggs from the farm as they are available (strawberries in June, raspberries and blueberries in July and early August, table grapes in September, apples in October). The Amity Flats are on the upper floor of a beautifully-restored historic building, accessible by lift or stairs. The five Flats share a common hallway and a private deck with a gas BBQ, ping pong table, and outdoor seating. Secure bicycle storage available: rent a bike from us or bring your own and rest assured that it is safe! We love to sit out and socialize with guests on nice days. On weekends in the summer we often have wine tasting events on the deck. We enjoy inviting long-term guests to our farm for a walk through the vineyard and dinner on our deck. Amity is a very small town (1600 people 0.6 square miles). We call it "eccentric, authentic, and endearingly lost in time. It is NOT a fancy place, but there are good places to eat within walking distance, including an outstanding restaurant (The Blue Goat). The surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful farmland to the west (hazelnut orchards, pastures, Christmas tree farms ..) and lovely hills dotted with vineyards and wineries to the east. McMinnville, home of Linfield College and a mecca of great restaurants, is 7 miles north. From Amity you can drive to Portland, the Oregon Coast, or the Cascade Mountains in a little over an hour. Or you can walk, bike or drive to local wineries. Amity is a rural town and not well connected to public transportation. The hosts are happy to refer guests to drivers who can provide transportation to and from the airport in Portland as well as around the area. Excellent wine touring services are also available. We use a keyless entry system at Amity Flats. You will be assigned a unique 4-digit code for the duration of your visit that provides access to external doors and the door to your room. A heavy metal gate secures the entrance to the Flats. It is closed but unlocked during the day and locked at night. We do not provide daily maid service, but for visits longer than one week our housekeeper will make up the bed with clean sheet and replace towels.
