Escape to Lake James, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Carolinas, via a unique stay that immerses you in nature and fun aboard the Mermaid Boat. A fully operating houseboat, the Gigi Mermaid boat was built and launched in 2021. Enjoy beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the clear waters of this 6,812-acre lake. You'll find 25 miles of trails surrounding the lake, 2 state parks (with boat-in camping), great fishing, public beaches while enjoying the conveniences of the Mermaid houseboat. - Kitchenette with Keurig, toaster, dishes, and cookware - Propane grill - Air conditioning & heat - Generator - Marine toilet - Sofa converts into a double bed - Table converts into a single bed - Bed linens & pillows The space is ideal for spending a day or weekend on Lake James. With air conditioning, propane grill, comfortable living areas that convert into beds, a kitchenette with dishes and utensils, bed linens, and a marine toilet on board - the Mermaid Boat is set up to be a ton of fun. The owner will pick you up at Canal Bridge Access Point in Marion, NC - provide a tutorial on using the boat, and then you will be able to take over. You can leave your car at Canal Bridge or he is happy to store it on his private property a short distance away. The boat is not docked, but there are several options for your overnight stay: 1. Reserve a boat-in campsite at Lake James State Park. You will have access to restroom facilities, a private campsite, and be able to have a fire or set up a tent. 2. Stay on a public beach - these are usually the best beaches on the lake with premiere views. They’re also free. But they can get crowded and noisy on holidays and weekends during prime summer months. They usually open up at sundown as boaters go home if you find they are all full when you arrive. There is no camping or fires allowed on the beach. 3. Tie up to the old state park dock (very low traffic) or anchor in a cove overnight. There is a generator that runs the air conditioner and electricity. The kitchen consists of countertops, Keurig, and room to store a cooler with ice. A $150 gas/damage deposit is taken as part of the fees which is refunded if guests return the boat with no damage and a full tank of gas.
