Our 2,300 sf solar 1909 historic Schoolhouse is both unique and beautiful. Thoughtfully renovated, it’s 18 ft windows and 26 ft ceilings let in marvelous light. With a modern kitchen, 4 bedrooms, patio, gazebo, playhouse, zipline, screening room and huge backyard, your family or group will find peace and tranquility. Central to destinations in Warwick, Walkill, NY; Vernon, NJ; Matamoras, PA. Skiing, hiking, lakes, orchards, Legoland and vineyards are all nearby. Insta:hudsonvalleyschoolhouse The space has been thoughtfully and personally decorated with unique pieces from our travels to India and Burma as well as with special schoolhouse pieces. It sort of resembles more a SOHO loft than a country home. What feels special to us is the quality of the light through the oversized schoolhouse windows: There’s just something about the light in the house that has always felt magical to us. We have invested a lot of love in our house and have renovated it thoroughly. The decor Includes three large blackboards and schoolhouse desks where our kids love to play "school." The large dining room table seats 12-15 people. The 4 bedrooms are as follows (please take note to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding): one bedroom is downstairs with a queen bed (adjacent to a bathroom), three bedrooms are upstairs: one with a queen sized bed and attached bathroom, one with two standard twin beds in the kid room (one is a trundle underneath the bed--there's also a long cushioned window seat that is bigger than a bed in that room that could fit another person so three kids could MAYBE sleep in that room), and one with a standard twin bed in the smaller upstairs room (please note this is a very tiny room for one person and has no windows), and there are 3 couches and an air mattress in the two living rooms (that can comfortably sleep additional people) for larger families or groups. So the house comfortably sleeps 7 in beds (as long as there are two people in each of the queen beds, and one person in each of the 3 standard twin beds, 8 if you include the long window seat in kid’s room, more if you include couches etc.). There is also a fold up toddler bed and two pack n plays underneath the twin bed upstairs for any babies in your group. Outside there is a large paved patio with an eight foot table (seats 10), outdoor chandelier, and four comfortable modern adirondack chairs. The attached pergola provides great shade. The pergola has Edison string lights attached that you can plug in (see photo). It is a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors. In addition, there is a ten foot covered gazebo for sunny days and enjoying sunsets. There is also a treehouse in the backyard as well as a large web swing, an 100 foot long zip line, a wooden standing swing for two, a stone fire pit with seating, a Weber gas grill, 2 large hammocks, a large geometric climbing dome, a 16 foot trampoline with safety net, 10 foot slackline, and a 90 foot “play shed” with a slide. In addition, there is a 1,200 square foot finished basement rec/play room with 500 square foot screening room (with a ten foot screen—operates using Netflix on your iPhone with a projector) with a separate entrance (not included in square feet of house.) It is my kids’ favorite place to be! It’s a very kid-friendly, carpeted, renovated space that includes two fun, relaxing hammock chairs, toys galore, a natural wood bar area with stools for doing work, poufs for sitting, a couch area, soft reading nook, lots of kid books, dress-up clothing, a dollhouse, and a playhouse. There is also a tv there (in addition to the screening room)—note that the tv is not big or fancy and uses only roku not cable. The screening room is pictured in pictures. The best part is: the kids very happily play and sometimes watch movies down there while we have adult conversation over leisurely dinners and wine upstairs. We do expect respectful guests. This is a no shoes house and that must be adhered to. There is a small TV in the basement but we mostly come here to experience the quiet and de plug (but there is good wifi). No parties or dogs are allowed. (At all.) While we have had many groups of adults (friend reunions, musicians, family groups, work retreats, wine enthusiasts for the wine trail) we are also very kid friendly. Some resources we have for kids include (they are all pretty put away outside and inside so it's not cluttering the house if you don't have children): a 90 foot furnished “play shed” outside with insulation and a play loft inside that has a long slide attached outside, baby gates on stairs, baby and toddler beds, high chairs, baby toys, drawing materials, dolls, animals, toys, kid books for all ages, a "play school" with schoolhouse desks etc, two doll houses with furniture/people etc, toddler indoor riding toys, play kitchen with play pots etc, a rocking horse, a play kitchen, doll carriages, a baby/toddler outdoor swing, a fold up ball pit, an outdoor water table, climbing dome, two art easels (for setting up outdoors), a large webbed riding outdoor swing that fits three, a treehouse, a 16 foot trampoline, slackline, toddler outdoor slide, house, and table, a zip line, play structure, four scooters of all sizes, a wagon, balls of all sorts and sizes, badminton, many varieties of board games and puzzles, three kid-sized bicycles, a kid-sized sled, 2 strollers, helmets, outdoor riding toys, an electric car and, of course, the basement rec room. If you search YouTube for "Hudson valley schoolhouse" or "Hudson valley Johnson schoolhouse" you will find videos of the house. The whole house and grounds including an acre of outdoor space, outdoor patio and a treehouse. I am responsive to any questions or concerns. Only 65 miles from NYC, the area offers many wonderful things: beautiful open rolling hills, dairy farms, apple orchards, farmers markets, and wineries-lovely to drive or bike through and take home some local produce! The area also boasts antique stores, great restaurants, a bowling alley, two great Drive-In movie theaters, many golf courses, world-class disc golf course, yoga studios, hang gliding, lake swimming, rafting/canoeing on the Delaware River, and hiking on the Appalachian Trail. It is in a very quiet area about twenty minutes from Warwick. It's uniqueness lies in its proximity to many places in the Hudson valley while being in an area that is so serene. (see detailed description of attractions in this ad). The house itself is just an amazingly relaxing spot with lots of light and openness. There are also many vineyards within 15-30 minutes of the area: you could easily do a whole week of wine tasting! (I have an extensive list). It's also close to the ski resorts in Vernon, NJ (25 minutes by car.) There are trains and buses to Middletown 15 minutes away or Port Jervis 20 minutes away and taxis or uber/lyft can be obtained there to the house. There is also a metro north train to beacon. It is approximately 1.5 hours from Manhattan and 2 hours from Brooklyn. We especially love living near so many special apple orchards, farms, distilleries, and craft breweries.
