Charming, restored cottage sleeps 6
La Maisonette has been lovingly restored around an old chapel. High ceilings provide excellent natural light and highlight a stylish blend of contemporary living with many original architectural features. The cottage sits at the back of a sleepy hamlet where an ancient mule track winds into the forests behind. The woodland can also be enjoyed from the comfort of the garden as guests can expect to see local fauna whilst barbecuing in the open air. The cottage affords spectacular views of the valley where homesteads and hamlets nestle in distant escarpments. La Maisonette is replete with two bedrooms. The master offers the possibility of a twin or double bed. We can also add a cot if requested. This room offers direct access to the garden and woodland beyond. The second double is characterized by its exposed timbers, stone and mezzanine. The fully furnished kitchen blends stylish and spacious living with many rustic touches. It is well equipped and perfect for family dining. The open plan design incorporates a living room complete with double sofa bed and large mezzanine. The bathroom is chic, complete with a roomy walk-in power-shower, bidet and all the essentials. Whilst the back garden looks out over woodland, the front terrace offers a covered seating area with views over the hamlet and formidable precipices beyond. Perhaps the quirkiest feature is the statue of 'The Black Madonna di Oropa', upon which La Maisonette is built around. Fontainemore is an undiscovered gem and year round destination, a perfect place to escape the hoards and enjoy a genuine Valdostana experience. Its idyllic riverside setting makes a great base to explore the Gressoney valley, the largest in the province. The historic centre feels timeless as the Lys tumbles under the extraordinary Ponte Romano on its journey down from the imposing Monte Rosa glaciers. Around the church and plaza the chatter of Patois can be still heard above the villages many fountains. From here, a myriad of ancient pathways connect nearby hamlets with breathtaking architecture – Sanctuary of Madonna della Guardia, Ponte di Moretta – and fairy tale design - houses built into the rock or sat atop ‘mushroom’ stilts. Longer walks pass 'ghost villages', high meadows and spectacular alpine scenery. The nearby Monte Mars Reserve and Pian de Coumarial offer some of the best back-country skiing, snow-shoeing, trekking and mountain biking in the whole region. We have personally compiled a book for all our guests that will be on the table upon your arrival. Within our book we've put together over 25 of our favourite trekking routes. We hope it offers weeks of varied entertainment throughout the year. The historic centre is just a five minute walk and equipped with grocery, cheesery, cafe and restaurant. There are various other recommended eateries within a short drive. The bus stop is only 400m away. This line is well served and runs the length of the valley connecting the skiing areas of Gressoney with the transport hub of Pont-Saint-Martin. It also serves as a great option to start/finish longer day-treks or simply to visit neighbouring villages. From 'Ponte', you can get connecting services to Turin and Milan. Additionally, we can arrange discounted taxis for up to 8 people with equipment. This may prove much faster, more comfortable and perhaps even a cheaper option, especially for a larger group.
