Countryside retreat, swimming pool, stunning views

Part of the SummerHouse Luxury Holiday Lets complex, Old Stables is a grand house in the middle of the Chew Valley overlooking the stunning Mendip foothills. Old Stables boast use of a heated indoor swimming pool with a hot tub, steam room & changing rooms. There are four lux bedrooms, three are en-suite, comfortably sleeping eight people with additional small pull-out beds for three, plus a pair of sofa beds for four more in our spacious reception rooms. Pictures don't do Old Stables justice! To the left of the front door are two reception rooms, the breathtaking Garden Room with a Knowle sofabed, a chaise longue, a pair of sofas, a pair of round tables and a highly polished, Victorian sideboard. The spacious Sitting Room has a pair of sofas, of which one is a sofabed. There is a large 4K TV with a Playstation, Android TV box and a Blu-Ray player. Both rooms have French doors that leads to the garden. Opposite the front door is a flight of stairs taking you to 3 luxury en-suite bedrooms. The largest is Chestnut - a super-king bed with a bijou pull-out bed, with a superb bathroom containing a freestanding slipper bath, walk-in shower and his 'n' hers basins. The next largest, Oak, has a super-king bed with a bijou pull-out bed. Oak's en-suite is a shower room. The cosy Silver Birch has a double bed and the en-suite has a freestanding bath and a separate shower. Going to the right of the front door leads you to Damson, a small bedroom with full size bunk-beds and a bijou pull-out bed. There is access to a downstairs washroom. The kitchen is extremely large with hand-made wooden units, granite worktop, slate floor, a 7 burner Smeg range, a dishwasher and a wooden dining table that comfortably seats 8. There is additional seating around the central island that seats 8 more. There are French doors leading to the patio overlooking the landscaped garden. The kitchen also leads to the shared laundry room which has a pair of washing machines, a pair of dryers and an additional dishwasher for those large parties! In our grounds you will find a 200-year old converted stables, a Georgian horse wash, a well, and a purpose built swimming pool. The pool complex houses a ten-metre swimming pool with a "Fluvo jet" to exercise against, a hot tub which takes 5 people (at a squeeze) a shower and steam cubicle, robes, slippers, spa towels, hair dryer. The temperature of the pool is 88 °F / 31 ° C and the temperature of the hot tub is 101 ° F / 38 ° C. Bring your own CDs, use ours or listen to the radio or Bluetooth; feel free to just sit in the pool room to read, relax or meditate. Groups are to book sessions for exclusive use of the pool complex - ask for details. We have personally approved people to offer you Massages, Aromatherapy Treatments and Personal Trainer Assessment which can be arranged by yourselves at an extra charge if required. Fully exclusive access to Garden Room, Sitting Room, Chestnut, Oak, Silver Birch, Damson bedrooms, kitchen, downstairs washroom, front door, hallway, landing. Laundry Room is shared with East Wing with locks. There is a private patio with charcoal BBQ. The Garden is shared with East Wing, owners family & friends. The pool complex is reservable for exclusive use. We are always on site to deal with any additional requirements of our guests. Centrally situated for visiting Bath, Wells, Bristol, Cheddar Gorge and the Mendip Hills, our holiday let is ideal for exploring this beautiful area. There are several walks from the house, including a stiff climb up to the Iron Age Hill fort atop Norton Malreward or a meander along the Chew Valley to see the Stanton Drew Standing Stones. There is great food to be found at “the Pelly”, The Lazy Lobster and “The Bear and Swan” only 4 minutes drive away in Chew Magna; if you are looking for gourmet dining, then the Michelin starred “Pony and Trap” is within 4 miles, as is also The Pig at Bath, but you will need to make a reservation well in advance for these. Belluton is a hamlet on the B3130 and within easy access to the A37 for travelling to Bristol and Bath which can be both reached within about a 30 minute drive. Chew Valley is unique in the West Country, comprising some 35,000 acres of unspoilt and protected countryside which occupies the middle ground of the Bath, Bristol and Wells triangle. Dominating the south side of the valley are the foothills of the Mendips, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The valley contains both the Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes, notably for their fishing, birdlife, sailing and nature study amenities. The villages in the Valley are all unspoilt and each has its individual charm and character. Only seven miles to the north of the Chew Valley is the City of Bristol, the West Country's financial and business centre, and host of the annual Balloon Fiesta. The World Heritage Site of the City of Bath, unique, stylish, a shopper’s paradise with its Roman origins is less than half an hour’s drive to the East. On the Southern side of the Mendips is the historic City of Wells, England's smallest city, with its ancient Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and lovely market square with its twice weekly market. Nearby is the new designer outlet at Kilver Court. Please note that we do 7 night stays from Fridays to Fridays all year round, bookable on Airbnb, however between November to March, inclusive, we offer stays of 3 nights, Fridays to Mondays, and 4 nights, Mondays to Fridays. Please contact us directly to book this. Also, please note that the Garden Room does not have curtains, and has ceiling-to-floor windows on 3 walls, so privacy would be at a minimum.
