We are situated in the heart of the Peak District in the quiet village of Chelmorton - LESS THAN 2.5 MILES FROM HILLHEAD QUARRY - providing the perfect base for exploring Buxton, Bakewell and the surrounding countryside. This double room is one of our THREE LARGE EN SUITE BEDROOMS. Please see our other listings for details of our twin room and our large third room which can be set up as a double, twin or triple room. We look forward to offering you a warm welcome to Ditch House! House and rooms Our home is on the outskirts of the village, with all three bedrooms enjoying the stunning, unbroken view across the historic strip fields to Chelmorton Low from their windows. Buxton - with its magnificent Georgian architecture, beautiful parks and Opera House – is less than a 10 minute drive away, we are a 15/20 minute drive from Bakewell and Chatsworth House and walkers and cyclists can access the Peak District countryside from our doorstep. Our lovely local pub – The Church Inn – is only a short walk away at the top of the village and serves good food at lunch time and in the evening. The bedrooms are fully furnished and equipped with a kettle and the wherewithal to make tea and coffee with fresh milk. Bed linen, towels and complimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are also all provided. All the bedroom doors are fitted with locks. We have off-road parking for one car per room. Breakfast We offer a good, home-cooked breakfast - using locally sourced produce where able - and will usually ask guests what they might like for breakfast the evening before. The choice includes some or all of: egg (boiled, scrambled, fried, poached), bacon, sausage, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, beans and toast. Guests can also help themselves to cereal, fruit and juice – and will be offered the choice of tea or fresh coffee. Although we can agree a time for breakfast which will suit guests when they arrive, we cannot guarantee being able to provide this before 08.00 or after 09.00. Facilities for bikes and kit We are able to store bicycles in our locked garage if required (at guests’ own risk) and can offer bike washing facilities (hose pipe and brushes!). Guests will not be able to bring bikes into the house. We also ask that guests do not wear their outdoor shoes upstairs in the house – and storage for muddy shoes/boots is provided. Wet outdoor kit can be hung to dry in the garage. Access and arrival/departure times Guests will have access to their own (lockable) en suite bedroom at all times and the dining room in the morning and evenings. They are also most welcome to use/join us in our living room in the evening. Guests are also very welcome to use the patio areas – where we have some garden furniture in spring and summer months. There are no guest cooking facilities, however guests are very welcome to use the dining room for eating takeaway meals or to sit and have a drink in the evening – and we can provide crockery and cutlery for this if required. Arrival time can be agreed on booking. Although we can usually be quite flexible – dependent on other commitments – arrival time would not usually be before 16.00 or after 22.00 (to avoid disruption to any other guests). On their day of departure, we ask that quests have vacated their room(s) by 10.00. We lock our front door when heading to bed, but have a method for leaving a key for guests – should they be anticipating returning later in the evening; or if for any reason we will not be in when guests might be returning at the end of the day. Our B&B rooms are in our home, so hopefully we will be available if needed, or certainly contactable by ‘phone. We aspire to a friendly, easy style of hosting – with the aim of making all our guests feel welcome and as comfortable as possible whilst they share our home. As we are keen walkers and cyclists (road and mountain) we have plenty of maps and a good knowledge of local routes – and are always happy to provide what advice or information we can, if required. Chelmorton is a small village in the heart of the Peak District, ideally placed for exploring all that England’s oldest National Park has to offer. It sits on the Limestone and Midshires ways with a string of routes radiating from the village – including links to the Tissington (High Peak) and Monsal trails. The area offers great cycling and is frequently used for cycling events – both large and small. The closest bike rental (as far as we’re aware) is at Parsley Hay (on the Tissington trail) or Blackwell Mill in Wye Dale (westerly end of the Monsal trail). We are also in striking distance of the Goyt and Manifold valleys, Lathkill Dale, Monsal Head, and the Staffordshire Moorlands (Chrome Hill, Axe Edge, The Roaches) – to name just a few of the beautiful places we are so lucky to have on our ‘door step’. Chelmorton is only a few miles from Buxton – with its many attractions including the Opera House, Pavillion Gardens, the Crescent and spa, the Devonshire Dome, Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park and the annual International Festival (July). We are also well placed for trips to Bakewell, Matlock, Ashbourne, Tideswell (and the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’), Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Dovedale and even Alton Towers is not so far from here. In addition to easy access by road (car or bike), Buxton has a train station with hourly trains to/from Manchester – and all stops in between. Buxton is reasonably well served by buses - including to Ashbourne, Bakewell, Chatsworth House, Sheffield and Manchester. The Trans Peak bus route also passes not too far from us (about a 10-15 minute walk to the stop) with hourly buses through the day. Ditch House is also home to our two cats - Bertie and Pearl. Pearl is friendly, but shy and Bertie is a dopey thug/handsome boy, depending on which of us you ask. We endeavour to keep them out of the guest bedrooms - but they do have free run of the rest of the house. We are therefore unable to accommodate assistance animals or pets. To preserve the tranquillity of our home for ourselves and our guests, the facilities and access arrangements described are available to resident guests only. It’s also important that our guests understand that we are a working household in a quiet village. We therefore generally keep the house quiet after 22.00 and ask that our guests come and go quietly after this time. We ask that all guests respect that our home is strictly no smoking in the house. While we do not have a TV at Ditch House, we now have fibre broadband which has improved internet streaming considerably. Please bring your own device – if this is something you plan to do with your time while here.
