Holloway 1 bed apartment - ideal base for walking
Visit Holloway, the birthplace of Florence Nightingale, and enjoy the perfect base for walking the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The Amber Valley and Derbyshire Dales are on the doorstep and the Peak District is just a short drive away. The jug and glass pub is a short walk away with numerous other places to eat and drink nearby in Cromford, Crich, Matlock and Belper. Ground-floor basement apartment with living space kitchenette, bedroom, w.c. and separate shower room accessed off the bedroom. The kitchenette has basic amenities with fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery and crockery, washing up liquid and towels. Please note there is no oven or hob. The w.c. is Jack and Gill style with 2 doors. One of the doors leads to the upstairs house but is kept locked for your stay. The apartment has its own separate door to access outside. Access is via a shared side footpath to the back of the row of houses where the door to the apartment is located. You are welcome to use the decked outside seating area and enjoy the views. We live in the house upstairs from the apartment, and our friendly dog Badger has use of the garden. The neighbours also have friendly dogs so please close gates and doors when using the shared access. As we live in the house above the apartment, you are welcome to get in touch if you need anything, or if you'd like some suggestions of places to visit / eat out. Holloway is one of a trio of attractive villages situated south east of Matlock, the other two being Dethick and Lea. 'Upper Holloway' Leashaw is the location of Lea Hurst, famous for being built by the Florence Nightingale family. The area is great for walking and there are some lovely walks to neighbouring villages and pubs. A car is recommended to reach us and for getting around. There is only one shop/post office and a butchers in the village so you will need to visit Belper or Matlock for shopping. There is a limited bus service that stops in the village and taxis run between Belper and Matlock. Parking for the property is further up the street outside the Memorial Gardens and public toilet. The Jug and Glass pub is a short walk away and offers pub food and drinks. In summer months there is also the Lea Gardens café just up the hill via a lovely walk through the Memorial Gardens. This is well worth a visit.
