Cozy Off-Grid Cabin on Organic Farm and Homestead
Welcome to a cozy, private, off-grid cabin on our small organic farm and homestead. Nestled on the edge of the forest, with sunny views of our orchard and fields. Farm-fresh vegetables, fruit and meat available seasonally for cooking in a fully stocked kitchen. We are just up the road from Lake St. George State Park, and a short drive from diverse recreational and dining opportunities. We are 20 minutes from Belfast, a small, bustling coastal town. 35 minutes to Camden. All are welcome! This cabin is truly special. When we moved here, it was a rustic, dark log cabin and it was the only structure on the farm. A few years ago we decided to renovate it and now it is a beautiful, bright and welcoming space. The cabin has a double bed in a little bedroom nook, a futon that folds out into a queen sized bed, a kitchen table, a desk space and a fully equipped kitchen with a 4 burner stove and an oven. Whereas this space is in excellent condition, please note that it is currently completely off-grid. This means that there is no electricity, running water or Wi-Fi in the cabin. During the day it is brightly lit by the sun, and at dark by the glow of battery-powered and oil lanterns. The bathroom is a clean outhouse 10 feet from the cabin and plenty of water is available for rustic bathing. There is both a propane heater for your convenience, as well as a wood-burning stove. Upon your arrival there will be 3 gallon water jugs filled with fresh well-water. There is also a water pump 25 feet from the house where you can always refill. This is an opportunity to stay in a comfortable, finished cabin while also taking a moment to unplug from the daily grind. Guests have full access to this private cabin and the outdoor area surrounding it. There are woods behind the cabin you are welcome to explore. A walk down the road past the cabin will lead you to nice views and a small bridge crossing of the Sheepscot River. Please be aware that this is working farm with livestock, a nursery, an orchard and gardens. Much of the farm is fenced in and there is often electric fencing around the farm as well. Both will limit where you can walk on our farm. We ask that if you are interested in walking within the fencing, please get in touch with us :) Thanks. If you have questions throughout your stay, please feel comfortable sending us a note through Airbnb, sending a text or calling us. We should be able to respond promptly. However, we do have 3 kids, outdoor farmwork and other jobs that we do that may make us temporarily unavailable to communicate. We will always do our best to have good communication and meet any of your needs. Montville is a secret gem of a town. Whereas it feels off-the-beaten-path it is also centrally located and within reach of many bustling towns and recreational areas. We live 5 miles from Lake St. George State Park, where there is swimming, boating, a nice playground and grilling sites. We are minutes from several Midcoast Conservancy Hiking Trails. Our farm is located on secluded part of a beautiful country road and if you continue walking or biking down our road, you will come to old, maintained fields mixed with forest and eventually a little bridge passing over the Sheepscot River. Within a 5- 40 minute drive you can access dozens of other hiking trails, biking trails, boating opportunities, several state parks, restaurants, local breweries, independent movie theaters, shops etc. Liberty village is 8 minutes away with the famous Liberty Tool Co., Belfast is 20 minutes with the Belfast Food Co-Op and many restaraunts, Camden Hills area is 35 minutes, Waterville is 35 minutes, Unity and the Commonground Fairgrounds is 20 minutes and Acadia National Park 1.5 hours. We sometimes have seasonal farm-raised vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs and maple syrup available. If you are interested in purchasing food for cooking on your trip, please let us know. We can give you an availability list and have the food in your cabin upon your arrival. Note that every year and season is different in terms of availability.
