Rutland is the smallest county in the UK, and has so much to offer, from outdoor pursuits, a vast choice of eateries, from pub grub to Michelin Star restaurants. Rutland Water is 27 miles in circumference. There is a cycle path all the way round, with coffee shops dotted on route. The Rutland Belle from Easter to October glides across the water. It goes from the shores at Normanton over to Whitwell. The town of Stamford is less than 5 miles away, it has many independent shops, beautiful architecture , restaurants , The George hotel and the stunning Burghley House and parkland. The tv series The Crown is filmed at Burghley. Burghley is also know for the horse trails that take place the first weekend in September. The towns of Oakham and Uppingham are also very picturesque but smaller than Stamford. Cambridge is about 45 minutes by car. There are several golf courses closed by, plus riding stables…something for everyone Beautiful countryside, histrionical towns , Stately Homes, parklands excellent rail and road links to Cambridge and London .
