The Potting Shed, 2 bed cosy countryside retreat
The Potting Shed is a family-run luxury guest house in a newly converted outbuilding (old potting shed!) offering guests a fusion of traditional country life with the comforts of all the mod-cons. Located in the picturesque village of Balcombe, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, The Potting Shed feels peacefully remote, yet has the convenience of being a short walk to the train station - just 8 mins to Gatwick, 40 mins to London and 20 mins to Brighton. The Potting Shed has 2 bedrooms (one king size double and one twin) that can sleep 4 guests comfortably. We can provide camp beds or travel cots for little guests too. The bathroom has a bath with rainfall shower. Downstairs is open plan. A cosy sitting area with a log burner (seasoned wood, kindling and firefighters all provided), smart TV, super-fast WiFi, books, magazines and games. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook up a treat: induction hob, microwave, oven, fridge-freezer, pots and pans a plenty. There’s a Nespresso and cafetière covering most coffee options, with tea a coffee (from a local roasters) provided. The dining area comfortably seats 4 (and we can provide high chairs for little legs). A floor to ceiling corner window makes for the perfect vista over the Sussex fields. Outside you’ll find a two-tiered patio equipped with outdoor furniture and a fire pit. On the upper level you can brave a secluded outdoor shower (heated) overlooking the fields or relax in the hot tub (coming Spring 2022). The Potting Shed is a standalone dwelling on our property and has its own private access. There’s two dedicated parking spaces out front. The Potting Shed has its own private patio and outdoor eating area too. The Potting Shed has a studio room attached to it, which is currently occupied by our wonderful nanny (who may also be available for babysitting, if required). There’s ample countryside walks direct from The Potting Shed door, so make sure you pack your wellies. Most of our favourite walks involve a pit stop at The Half Moon pub (which also does delicious lunches and dinner). If you’re keen to get to the pub quicker it’s an easy 5 minute walk along the road ;-) Next door to the pub you’ll find The Balcombe Stores which stocks a fabulous range of local fresh produce. Other fun things nearby include: Wakehurst, Nymans and Borde Hill for the garden lovers; Historic Lewes and Glyndebourne for the culture vultures; Bolney, Kinsbrook, Rathfynny and plenty of other micro vineyards for the Sussex sparkling wine lovers; South Downs for those who love a good climb with an epic view. If you’re considering staying with us before/after a flight, we are an easy 15 mins drive from Gatwick and 50 mins from Heathrow. A bit about us (your neighbours): We are a family of 5 and a pup. Our children are young so weekdays involve an array of nursery classes, Forest school sessions, playgroups or play dates at home. On weekends you’ll most likely find us out in the garden. If you’re into planting, maintaining or harvesting (fruit and vegetables a plenty) you’re welcome to join us. If you’re visiting with children they’re welcome to enjoy our trampoline, swings, dens, mud kitchens, fireman’s pole or whatever obstacle course we’re building at the time. Other local things we enjoy doing, and you might too, include: - walking across the field or through the woods to the Half Moon Pub for a pint - Cycling a little further to The Cat (20km round trip) - watching a game of cricket (and playing in the giant sandpit) at Balcombe Cricket Club - building dens in the woods - visiting local gardens such as Wakehurst, Sussex Prairie Gardens and Borde Hill (epic adventure playground too) and Nymans - heading down to the coast (30 mins drive) for some beach time, kite surfing, or cycling along the promenade - pottering around Brighton’s shops (or eating/drinking our way through The Lanes) - going for coffee (and an inevitable playground visit) in the neighbouring villages of Lindfield and Cuckfield If you're still reading.... well done! We're new to Airbnb, so feel free to ask us about anything we may have missed.
