The Pond House This cozy, slightly rustic, straw-bale cabin sits on the edge of a beautiful spring-fed pond. Enjoy the tranquility and peace of this special, private spot. Relax, unplug, enjoy nature. The fully-equipped kitchen includes a refrigerator, stove, oven, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, utensils for preparing and eating meals. The attached living room has a wood burning stove. A wooden ladder with a railing leads up to two sleeping lofts. The outdoor wash sink and shower have ample hot and cold water. The charming outhouse with it's composting toilet is just a short walk from the cabin. The property is surrounded by trees and fields but conveniently close to a quiet dirt road for easy access. The pond is perfect for swimming. Take a walk in our woods, say hello to Lulu and Hank our 2 adorable donkeys in the pasture nearby, meditate, read, nap by the pond, connect with nature, realign and re-charge. If you are looking for a magical, romantic, relaxing, slightly rustic experience, The Pond-House is perfect for you. Enjoy! Park at the back of the house on a gravel drive in. We live close by and can be contacted if there are any problems. Generally, after checking you in, we leave you be to enjoy your stay. FUN THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA Just down the road is Stone & Thistle Farm, a small livestock farm raising sheep, goats, pigs, cattle where you can take a private farm tour, purchase farm-fresh meats, eggs and ready to eat food, or participate in farm workshops. The farm prepares and delivers to the Pond-House guests dinners and lunches- made with the best of the farm’s meat, dairy and vegetables. Two weeks or more notice is needed for farm programs or meals. Lunches and farm programs are not available on Saturdays. A steep ladder leads to the loft bedrooms. The pond 's edge is a few feet away from the entrance and drops off precipitously after a few feet into deep water. All children MUST know how to swim. There are plastic swimming rafts in the shed for your use. - Elevation at the Pond House is around 2000 ft. Nights can get chilly even in the summertime. Be prepared with warm clothes even though the wood stove will keep you toasty all night through as long as you tend to it and feed it wood. - The loft bedrooms are shaped like tents. You can comfortably stand upright in the center, from there the ceilings swoop down to the ground. - Bedroom # 2 has a low door, you need to stoop down or crawl to get through. - The kitchen sink and the shower are outside with ample cold and hot water. - Water is potable. - The compost toilet is in an outhouse - a short walk from the house. - There is a small charcoal grill. Please bring your own charcoal. - There is a fire pit for campfires. Please bring your own wood for the fire pit. Wood is provided for the wood stove only and is cut to fit into the wood stove. Please do not use the wood on the porch for the fire pit. You can collect wood from around the property for the fire pit. - Compost - There is a compost bed a short walk behind the outhouse. Please dump all food scraps in the compost bed. If you need to empty the compost toilet during your stay, please dump in the compost bed with the food scraps and turn over the compost with the pitchfork.
