Please note: We require guests to book the total amount of persons staying as we charge per-guest. We do not have a TV and our home is not suitable for unsupervised young children. Between Whitwell’s Delight and Bowers Beach Road, across from the old Tuthill Brothers Farm, we have a quiet space that is perfect for up to eight people to feel at home; great for couples or a tight-knit group of friends or family. We also have records, board games and puzzles to enhance the feeling of a cozy stay. A 70’s era “Nanticoke” home, the house has remained in the family since it was built on the property, and has played host to generations of family gatherings and celebrations. It has been redecorated to produce a cozy comfortable feeling, and every room has a different appeal. The overall retro aesthetic has been enhanced with precisely chosen furniture, and little additions are making their way into the space all the time. All bedrooms include blinds and blackout curtains for privacy and sound sleep, and on average it’s a very quiet area. The washer and dryer are located in the basement, with detergents provided. Coffee and tea are provided with possibly a few extras. Please ask! You should find everything you need here, like a home away from home. We have provided for soaps, shampoos, laundry detergent, towels, bedding, cleaning supplies, cookware and a well stocked "junk drawer.” The house is professionally cleaned prior to your arrival to welcome you and enhance the experience. We are intent on delivering A Slice of Paradise, and that means comfort. Guests have free reign of the whole house and front (west) yard. The outbuildings, detached garage and its corresponding driveway are not for guest use. Ideally we would give you the key and let you enjoy the space, but if you have any questions or requests, just ask! Close to Dover AFB, with Cape May/Lewes/Rehoboth/Bethany/Ocean City beaches all within a 40-60 minute drive. Bowers Beach proper is nice for walking and watching the surf. Ample free parking is available in the lots at the center of town. Be mindful of the high tides when you park! The town also has a restaurant, bar, fire hall and church as well as a headboat and boat ramps. The nearby town of Magnolia has a very nice diner and furniture store, and overall the area is a fine example of small town USA. The neighboring towns of Frederica and Little Creek are also quite nice and offer several restaurants. The closest town with all amenities is Milford, 15 minutes due south on route 1. Most transportation in the area is reliant upon private car. We would discourage trying to use a taxi or public transport for cost and quality of life reasons. Bowers Beach is only a mile away and it can be walked, but there are no dedicated pedestrian pathways, at minimum we recommend using bicycles and being extremely mindful of the traffic into and out of town. Route 1 is definitely not pedestrian or bicycle friendly and if you are leaving the immediate area, we again firmly recommend using your own vehicle. We have an electric BBQ and a portable firepit for guest use. The BBQ is outside under a black plastic cover, the extension cord and tools are in the pantry closet in a cloth bag. When you use the barbecue or firepit, please take them across the driveway into the west yard, far enough away from the house. After you’ve finished and they’ve cooled down, please put the cover back on and return them as you found them, thank you! We keep dehumidifiers running year round in the basement for air quality and comfort. The sump pumps will most likely be running in winter, neighboring properties have dug man-made ponds, blocked streams and altered the water tables locally, so you may hear a motor in the basement that is keeping it from flooding! It is the country-side, so cash-crop farming activity is also ongoing in the summer, with the unfortunate consequence of occasional heavy pesticide use. The mosquitoes, flies and ticks also make their appearance in the summer, so bug repellent is available in the entry-way closet.
