Close to town, close to nature
Simple, comfortable daylight basement suite in Naches, 11 miles west of downtown Yakima and the town closest to White Pass ski area. Bedroom with queen sized bed, sitting room (each with a window), and simple bathroom with small shower stall. Private entrance. The yard is large and peaceful, and the neighborhood is quiet. Good place for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds in all seasons, nature lovers, hikers, and lovers of craft beer/wine. There is a small microwave for your use. This is not a sleek, remodeled basement, but there is a bedroom with an excellent bed, a comfy sitting room, and a bathroom with shower and hot water. There is a private entrance. We are on the highway but behind a high hedge, so when you sit on the deck in back, which we share with you, it feels very rural. The property itself is on a creek connected to the nearby Naches River, and the view from the deck is very pretty. The town (think Norman Rockwell) is just across the highway and is an excellent place to walk. A couple of blocks along the highway and a right turn brings you to a path where you can walk along the Naches River. Naches is 11 miles west of Yakima, where there are many restaurants. In Naches itself, there are simpler opportunities (taverns, small restaurants). This is a seriously agricultural area; and in spring, fall and summer, there is fabulous produce available at fruit stands everywhere. In spring the blooming fruit trees are gorgeous. This area has become very well-known for excellent wines, and the wineries are very close by. One is even at the end of a lovely canyon hiking trail. We are very close to various bluebird trails, where bird lovers have built nesting boxes, which have brought the bluebirds back to our area. Close by also is the Oak Creek wildlife station that feeds thousands of elk each winter. It is a sight to see the elk pouring out of the hills for lunch. It's an hour's drive up highway 12 to the White Pass Ski Area which has opportunities for snowboarding, downhill skiing, and cross country skiing. What we offer here are simple accommodations with excellent outdoor opportunities. Guests have access to the basement where the rooms are located as well as to the property and the deck. There is plenty of off street parking in our driveway. There is a walking path right across the street which you can follow a half mile to downtown Naches. Our aim is to be gracious and accommodating while giving guests their privacy. You can text or call us anytime for help or information or knock on our door. Calling and knocking work best. The WiFi code will be on our welcome folder. Naches is a quiet small town. There is a walking and bicycling path across the street from us that is part of a larger Greenway path stretching from the old railroad depot half a mile west of us 20+ miles east to Selah and Union Gap. Most of the town streets have sidewalks, and we enjoy walking around town in cool weather. We have a library and a city park, too, with an outdoor swimming pool that is open in the summer. Sportsman's Days is the annual town fair. It takes place the second Friday and Saturday of September and offers all kinds of activities. There is no public transportation here. Greyhound and Alaska Airlines travel to terminals in Yakima, each about 13 miles from us. There is safe off street parking at our place. In nice weather, which is often in spring, summer and fall, we serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bagels and fruit on the deck at 9 a.m. or at another mutually agreeable time. At other times, we can serve this continental breakfast in your sitting room.
