A lovingly renovated detached cottage, away from the main tourist track but within easy reach of all that Dorset offers. Perfect to rest up after a hike or a bike or a day at the beach, or just to settle down with a book. Secure garage storage for bikes/kayaks and a secure garden for your dogs and children. A superb location for walking, cycling and many other activities from the front door and further afield. Handsomely equipped, this home provides the little details that you might forget! Two large double bedrooms with double beds, newly but sympathetically decorated. One single room with a single bed. DOWNSTAIRS main bathroom with a cloakroom in one of the double bedrooms. The living areas are exceptionally spacious for a country cottage with a large kitchen and spaces for barbecues, reading, playing a board game or just relaxing in front of the fire. We have tried where possible, to be environmentally sympathetic. Our duvets are made from recycled cotton and we offer 4, 9 and 13 tog thicknesses. Hand soap and shower gel are provided and are environmentally friendly, along with new energy efficient renovations and other items around the house. The garden is dog friendly and there is an outside tap in the back garden should it be needed (easy access from the rear to the house). Parking for two cars is available in the driveway. Further parking can be found in the village tennis courts carpark, across the road. Bus and train services are available in Dorchester town centre (15 minute drive away) where an excellent long term car park can also be found (see Transport) We’re available throughout your stay. We will send you an information guide electronically (we usually use What’s App) and several numbers are provided for you to contact either myself or in an emergency, my neighbours at the back of the house. In the heart of the Piddle Valley, Piddletrenthide is a long village on the river Piddle, 8 miles north of Dorchester and 4 miles east of Cerne Abbas. It forms one of the villages of the Piddle Valley (which include Puddletown and Piddlehinton). The village has a village shop and is just over a mile to the nearest pub, The Thimble Inn, renowned for it's friendly atmosphere and superb food. Sadly, the two village pubs have never re-opened after the start of Covid, but there are a number of other pubs within a 5 mile radius which are excellent. The name Piddletrenthide dated from the time of the Domesday Book (1086) and means 'estate of thirty hides on the River Piddle’. The church of All Saints is situated to the northern end of the village. The tower dates from the 15th century and has wonderfully gruesome gargoyles on its battlements. There are tennis courts and a children's play area just across the road. The cottage is just 15 minutes drive from Dorchester and its multitude of museums and history. It is also 15 minutes from Poundbury, the famous urban development on Duty of Cornwall land spearheaded by HRH Prince of Wales. The cottage is also 25 minutes from Weymouth and the 3 mile beach front with its attractions including watersports, Sealife and traditional beach amusements. 15 minutes drive and you can find yourselves in the vast Puddletown Forest, where there is an abundance of walking trails and a large network of challenging mountain bike routes. Minutes from here is Thomas Hardy's cottage and the visitor centre. In addition two golf clubs are nearby, Wolfedale, just 10 minutes drive away, and Came Down only 20 minutes away. The area is a mecca for ramblers and road cyclists and is ideal for those wishing to be in a truly rural village setting away from the main tourist trail but within easy access of all the holiday attractions. The Cottage is a 10-15 minute drive to the main A35 route giving a breadth of access to both east, south and west Dorset attractions. It also provides good northerly access to Shaftesbury, Yeovil and Sherborne. 35 minutes and you can be in Bridport, a wonderful historical market town with a beach a mile away. Buses and trains are available in Dorchester, 15 minutes drive away, with an excellent short and long term car park (Fairfield Car Park). Yeovil Junction is half an hours drive. The Jurassic Coaster is a bus that takes you along the coast road and goes as far as Axminster. Lyme Regis is enroute. The A35 is close by and this provides excellent access to both east and west of Dorchester. Whilst all the plumbing and decor are new, fundamentally the original part of the building is not. Some ceilings are low, as you would expect in an old cottage. In addition, the stairs to the bedrooms have a smaller tread than you might be used to. For this reason, we would not recommend this property as being suitable to anyone who has a significant walking difficulty. Please note, the main bathroom is on the GROUND FLOOR, with a toilet and sink cloakroom in one of the double bedrooms upstairs.
