If old dirt roads, a beautiful river, disconnecting from the nonstop technology (no wifi & cell service is spotty) and the privacy of a quaint home aren't your idea of relaxing then the Sugar Shack isn't for you. Being willing to get a little dust on your car can bring you tranquility at the Elk River Sugar Shack. Sitting riverside provides a perfect opportunity for stargazing. We are in 90 minutes south of Nashville,40 minutes north of Huntsville, Al and 15 miles to Jack Daniel’s Distillery. You can walk or drive your vehicle (as long as we haven't had a lot of rain) to the edge of the Elk River. Canoes are available for rent near by in season or bring your own for a fun time on the river. There is a shared covered and shaded picnic area with picnic tables and a fire pit (wood provided for a few nights) at the river that you are welcome to enjoy. The water level is controlled by TVA. Make sure you don't get in the water unless it is safe. You’ll also find a volleyball area, corn hole boards and horseshoes. There is plenty of space for kids to run and play. The home is best suited for up to 2 adults and 2 or 3 children or 2 couples if one couple doesn't mind sharing the full size bed. We have another home on the property that is about the same size. Check out the Elk River Sweet Bee. Both houses will make a great getaway for a couple of families or friends group. If interested in both homes as a group getaway look for Angie's Elk River Cottages. All areas are accessible to guests. Enjoy the home inside and out. Anything in the house is for your use while you visit. Be mindful of the water level at the river. The water level is controlled by TVA. Please use good judgment before entering the river. We enjoy having guests on our property. However, we will never intrude on your privacy. We live nearby and are happy to help or answer any questions! We are excited for you to visit our little slice of the simple life. The Elk River Sugar Shack is 8 miles from Fayetteville, Tn where you will find many great antique stores, a wonderful movie theater, a beautiful park, welcoming churches and several local restaurants. You are a short drive to some great attractions: The Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Al - 35 miles, Jack Daniels Distillery - 18 miles, Tim's Ford Lake in Winchester, TN - 23 miles and Nashville - 96 miles. We are in a rural area without public transportation. The Elk River is a peaceful place to enjoy swimming, fishing, camping and canoeing in season. The Elk River is controlled by TVA therefore there will days that the water level is above normal and swifter Those days don't happen often during summer but, will happen more often during a rainy spring season and also again in winter. While we always wish for the weather to cooperate please don't blame us if Mother Nature doesn't do her part. When they generate at the dam the water level rises. You can still enjoy the river from the bank. Cell service is spotty depending on your carrier. Most everyone is able to get a signal at the river even if you can't at the house. There is usually a good signal at the top of the driveway as well. Cable TV is available and there is a DVD player with DVD's or feel free to bring your own movies to watch, but you'll probably want to spend most of your time enjoying the outdoors when the weather is pretty. An undisclosed pet will result in a $100.00 charge for extra cleaning plus charges for any damages caused. Speaking of animals we do apologize if some of the less desirables show up without invitation. Since we do live in nature the occasional wasp, beetle, stink bug, mosquito, snake, mole, mouse, etc. may be seen. Our hope is that these will appreciate their outdoor accommodations and leave the inside for humans.
