Please contact us to discuss rates for month long stays. We clean and sanitize between guests - all knobs, handles, switches, remotes, and hard surfaces and spraying all soft surfaces like upholstery, curtains and pillows with Lysol. I am rotating the throw pillows in addition to spraying so the ones in the closets were used by the guests ahead of you. I have begun to block 2 nights between each guest to help protect me when cleaning between guests and to help protect you. If you are a traveling nurse or doctor or someone working on the front lines coming to work in our community please message me for a special rate. Please check out all of our photos to see the cottage and surrounding property during all four seasons. Come let your stress melt away at our little slice of Almost Heaven West Virginia. Historic Harpers Ferry and Shepardstown, chartered in 1762 and one of the two oldest towns in WV, are just 8 miles from the cottage and perfect for a daytime or evening stroll. The Hollywood Casino, just 3 miles from the cottage has partially re-opened so please check their site for details. The advantages of Fairview Farm go beyond the middle-of-everything location, the gardens and sweeping vistas. It’s the perfect family, me-time get away or romantic destination. Parties of four or less, with a positive review and a completed profile can book automatically. A guest without previous reviews or a completed profile will need to send a request to book. A government issued ID like a driver’s license, passport, or DMV issued walking ID are required for Airbnb to confirm your identity. A tip for those without previous reviews: the more info you can give Airbnb to confirm your identity the more comfortable your host will feel. Hosts do not see this information, we can only see that it was provided to Airbnb. The cottage can sleep up to six people, but parties over four will need to send a request to book. The property is beautiful dusted or covered in snow and bursts with color in Spring, Summer and Fall. It is a great destination for photographers or anyone who loves the serenity of a rural setting. Our historic barns, mountain views, gently rolling pastures, and the wildlife, including deer, barn swallows, eagles, blue jays, red cardinals, yellow finches and hummingbirds, ground hogs, red fox, bunnies, and the elusive coyotes that can be heard more than seen all make up Fairview Farm. You will also find: > a fire pit surrounded by large rocks and chairs for evening marshmallow toasting is just a short walk from the cottage. A stack of wood is provided. > the main house and cottage sit back from the street more than 1/4 mile so there is a feeling of seclusion without the isolation. > during the 4th of July celebration, there is a fantastic view of the fireworks from the side deck of the cottage or the front porch of the main house, where you are welcome to join us. And there is much more. In early spring the farm is planted with non GMO/organic seeds and then tended organically. Last year was very hard with high temps and torrential downpours, but most of the destruction to our gardens came from bunnies that have moved on to the property and are multiplying like...bunnies. If you sit quietly outside the cottage you are sure to see them running in and out of the raspberry patch. We have our fingers crossed that the weather is less severe this year. We will have organic herbs in my kitchen, and flower gardens. Just ask if you need something for cooking- mint, basil, oregano, rosemary, thai basil. The kitchen is a cook's delight. There is a Keurig, toaster, blender, family size pressure cooker/crock pot and microwave. We've provided a nice set of cookware, and several pieces of Corning Ware that I have collected for years. If guests need a small appliance, such as a rice cooker, ice cream maker, griddle, etc. Please let us know. We have several small appliances that can be brought up to the cottage in just minutes. A large gas grill is also provided on the screened in porch. Please let us know in advance if you intend to use it so we can fill the propane tank. There is no dishwasher in the cottage. We provide a drying mat and several wood drying racks. In keeping with our organic lifestyle, we use as few chemical cleaners as possible in the cottage. We mainly use and provide vinegar or other cleaners without harsh chemicals. Please bring laundry soap if you plan on doing laundry during your stay. While we do not allow large, unruly parties, we can accommodate families or groups that would like to gather for the holidays at the cottage - with advance approval. We are happy to provide additional pots, pans, serving dishes, a full set of china and tables and seating, as needed. Just let us know. The cottage is furnished with an eclectic mix of high end contemporary furniture and vintage and antique pieces. My mother's and my taste combined into a space that all of our guests have raved about. The cottage was built for my mother in her later years. The Heywood Wakefield mid century bedroom suite in the master bedroom was her wedding gift from my grandparents in the late 1950s. Though she never moved in, all doorways, hallways, and the shower were designed to be wheelchair accessible. There is a 1/4 step to enter the porch, the cottage and the shower. The cottage will be tastefully decorated for holidays including a decorated tree for Christmas. If you, your family or friends are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or holiday we are happy to provide a home baked decorated cake or cookies for an additional fee. You can choose from many flavors, and types including glutton free, dairy free, vegan, or organic, even Keto. MOST IMPORTANTLY: We welcome everyone! We absolutely do not and will not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, or who you love. We will respect your privacy and only ask you respect our property. This a functioning small farm, surrounded by farms with all the smells, and noises of livestock and tractors. While the evenings are quiet, and the star filled skies, breathtaking, during planting, growing and harvest season work starts at sun up. Please be aware The main 1/4 mile driveway is gravel and the driveway to the cottage is mostly a dirt road with a layer of gravel. Both can get beat up during bad storms and/or heavy farm equipment. We keep them entirely passable but please drive slowly to avoid potholes on the main driveway. Guests are responsible for reading the House Manual on the App. It’s not heavy reading - just a short list of common sense rules for staying at the cottage. Check -In Instructions on the app include step by step photos to help find and enter the cottage. Other Info: we were chosen to be the recipient of the largest tree planting eco project along Elks Run by the Conservation Department of WV Forestry. With the help of volunteers, 150 Native trees have been planted along the creek to help prevent erosion. "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, & narrow-mindedness... Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men & things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” - Mark Twain Guests are welcome to walk the property from historic barns to Elks RunCreek and view the many flower gardens. We live in the original house on the property and are available to answer questions or assist in any way we can, with just a call or text, otherwise we will respect our guests privacy. We are also happy to give guests a walking tour of the property or join in toasting marshmallows, but only by request of the guests. From recent guests: So sorry that we didn't get to write a review. Your farm was serene and peaceful and a welcomed respite from our travels from Louisville. Thank you for being so kind and warm as hosts, and the muffins were a wonderful treat in the morning! We are planning on sending our friends and family your way and spread the word of your small slice of heaven in the world! We will definately be back and stay with you again! We are located on the main road that runs between Charles Town and Sheperdstown. There are grocery stores (Aldis, Weiss, and a Giant called Martins) CVS, Rite Aid, Sweetfrog, Home Depot, Kohls, a great nail salon, and several restaurants and fast food joints within 3 miles. All the conveniences of the suburbs, in a rural setting. The cottage is surrounded by farmland pastures. A working dairy farm is across the street and can be seen from the cottage. The pastures of a beautiful 60 acre farm that once bred black angus, backs to our property A car is needed to get around. We have added a pull out double sofa that sleeps two. It has an upgraded 4” memory foam mattress.
